Be a Careful Food Shopper During Sales

Do you understand the on-sale prices at Supermarket? Are you price savvy when the shelf price says 5 cans of soup for $5.00. Do you rush to buy 5 cans of the same kind of soup because you think you must to inorder to get the on-sale- price? Do not be fooled. Read the sale price closely.

Did you know that you can buy only one can, instead of five, and still pay a dollar for a can. You can buy two, if that is all you need, and still pay a dollar a can, or a total of $2.00. This is how supermarkets fool the consumer. Did you know that?

I just came home from food shopping. I wanted to buy a package of lettuce. I checked the prices and found more than one type of lettuce on sale. One was a package of cut up Romaine Lettuce. I really enjoy that. It was on a buy one and get one free sale. This is a great! I saw a woman pick up two packages of the same lettuce. I asked her if she only used Romaine Lettuce? She said, no, but it is on sale. So she thought she had to buy two packages of the Romaine.

I showed her a package of Italian Lettuce that was on sale for the same price. I asked her, if she knew she could buy one package of the Romaine and one of the Italian lettuce and still get one free? She shook her head “no”. She thought the sale price was limited to the same type of lettuce. She never asked. Did you know this?

If you love Peanut butter, and the bin is filled with both Chunky and Smooth peanut butter jars on sale for $1.50 for a 5 oz jar and get one jar free. You are not obligated to buy two of the same type. Read the Sale carefully. You could buy one jar of Skippy Chunky Peanut Butter and one jar of Smooth and Creamy free. When their sale offers this type of sale, I stock up on peanut butter and wait until the next buy one and get one free sale.

The same is true of many grocery items on sale. Read the on sale labels carefully. If you do not understand, ask the Department Manager and not one of the clerks who work there. Do not get fooled.
