America’s Got Talent – Review of 9/13/11 Season Finale Episode

America’s Got Talent has been an up and down show all season long. I don’t believe that this season has had the best total talent, but it has had its standouts. Four of the best have made it to the finals and they gave their all tonight. Here is my take on the Final 4 of America’s Got Talent 2011 (in order of appearance).

1) Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. He sure did it his way tonight. And he was perfection personified. He has the voice that all others, including well-established artists, could only dream about. His rendition of Frank’s My Way was nothing short of brilliant. He’s got the look, the style, the attitude, the coolness, the everything. Loved it. His singing gives me chills. So powerful.

2) Team iLuminate. I’m afraid that they are suffering from the Fighting Gravity curse. They came out of the gates as the hottest thing since fire and have failed to improve or shock us further. Each week they are great. A live show with them must be a true visual experience. But on television it hasn’t been as impressive. Can’t fault them for this but 99.9999999% of the voters will have only seen them on television. Win or not they have a huge future ahead of them with this act. They will own Vegas.

3) Poplyfe. Last week I said that no musical talent show act should EVER try to sing Cyndi Lauper or Freddie Mercury/Queen (or Prince). Anna Graceman sang Cyndi Lauper and she was eliminated. Poplyfe sand a Queen medley tonight and it will cost them their chance at winning. They were the wildcard act who had the best shot at upsetting Team iLuminate. It was courageous of them but nobody can sing like Freddie Mercury. It is embarrassing to even try.

4) Silhouettes. What a wonderful world it is indeed. This is still the act that I like the least, by far, of those in the finals. Sometimes they are boring and confusing. Sometimes they are way to vanilla and pandering to patriotism. Silhouettes act is the equivalent of a musician (while performing in Miami) shouting, “Miami rocks and you are the best fans in the world!!” I just don’t get it. Great tonight but it’s hard to see a bunch of kids that young going on a full American tour.

Who SHOULD Win – Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr.

Who WILL Win – Team iLuminate

By the way – Terry Fator was so fun to see again. He can sing better with his mouth closed than most people can with theirs open. So talented.

One last thing.
