Aging with Amazing Grace

Age is just a number, or so it’s said. Some people seem to age gracefully with very few bumps in the road while others seem to trudge on miserably through their lives. How do some people manage to be happy no matter how many years go by?

Happiness

Having an attitude of happiness will help us to feel better. Don’t dwell on past mistakes, past happenings or anything negative. Happiness is a way to keep our minds and bodies young. Why waste time on anything else?

Benefit of the Doubt

Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Does someone come across as rude or difficult to get along with? Giving that person the benefit of the doubt will go far in helping us to age with amazing grace. Knowing that the person you’re having difficulty with doesn’t set out to be difficult will go far in helping us to deal with that person. Anger and annoyance can really drag you down. Don’t waste your time on negativity.

Acceptance

Let’s face it. Acceptance is half the battle. We can’t stop our aging but we can accept it and embrace it.

Cheer Leaders

Encourage each other. Cheer each other on. Help each other out. Being a cheer leader is to encourage and be there for one another.

Socialization

Stay social. Many senior centers offer games such as cards, bingo, shuffle board and more. Make new friends and enjoy spending time with them. Lot’s of women enjoy getting together with friends making quilts and other gifts for the needy in our communities.

Exercise

Plenty of healthy gentle exercise will help to ease those aches and pains. Our hearts and lungs will be healthier as well if we exert a bit of energy on our pursuit of exercise.

For years many have thought that aging well was a lot more complicated than these few steps. We can’t stop aging. We can’t put it on hold. We can’t ignore it. We must have the right attitude and face it head on. Wear a smile and put our best foot forward.
