A Review of Pearl Harbor Movie

Pearl Harbor is a movie based on the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese during World War II and how the Americans reacted. This movie follows the involvement of two men. Its starts out as the two boys, Rafe and Danny, playing in an airplane. The boys get in trouble and Rafe stands up to the abusive father of Danny.

The movie goes from that incident to where Rafe and Danny are grown men who are now pilots in the military. The Japanese in the movie spoke of the United States as having cut off Japan of oil supply and they only have eighteen months of oil left before they run out. This is the reason given for the attack they plan on Pearl Harbor while pretending to want to make peace during the peace talks. They choose Hawaii because the ships are all close enough to make a perfect target of attack.

As the Japanese executed their plan they sunk ships killing thousands of men. Many were trapped in the ships that sunk and drowned. One part of the movie one of the Japanese higher officers says that he fears all they have done is awaken a sleeping monster. That makes sense because the attack was so ugly that it angered all Americans. It was this attack that caused the United States to declare war on Japan.

The movie also deals with one attack that a special group of pilots lead to show Japan that they messed with the wrong country. They rode on a Navy ship until they were close enough to have the pilots fly over Japan and drop bombs on important Japanese factories and other buildings. The attack will later turn out to be a small with comparison to the end of the fight when we dropped the atomic bomb on Tokyo.

This movie dealt with Americans and Japanese. The Americans wanted peace and the Japanese did not. War is not always an inevitable part of the human existence. When both parties come together and compromise then war can be avoided. The attack on Pearl Harbor was one of those events were war was inevitable because the Japanese crossed a line deceiving Americans into thinking that they could avoid war. When it comes to war “revenge has usually been a key factor”. (O’Neal, par # 9, 2006)

Wars originated because “people are by nature aggressive animals”. (O’Neal, par # 1, 2006) There are many causes to why war happens. It happens “because of the changing relations of numerous variables–technological, psychic, social, and intellectual”. (Rummel, par # 1, 2010) There are many effects of war. Some countries gain more land. Numerous lives are often lost in the conflict. During the American Civil

War the Southern economy was destroyed and it took years to rebuild after the end of the war. War will continue to happen as long as people continue to fight over what they view to be important issues.
