A Perfect Summer Retreat in Beaver Creek, Colorado

Beaver Creek, Colorado is a gorgeous small town with fantastic ski slopes and a variety of winter activities. But if you’re looking for a relaxing summer vacation spot, you might want to consider all the great things this little town has to offer.

If you feel like working up a good sweat on your vacation, start your morning on one of the many mountain trails with a bike ride or a heart-pumping hike. But if you prefer to ditch the workout, one great alternative is a gondola ride up the mountain. You can soak up the glorious view while traveling upwards of 10,000 feet. If you’re brave enough to look down, you can often spot beavers, elk, or other wildlife roaming about. After you reach the top of the mountain, you can exit the gondola and enjoy the cool breeze and exquisite views. Make sure to take a few pictures to remember the moment.

Following a leisurely gondola ride, you’ll probably be looking for a bite to eat. Luckily, there are a wide variety of great restaurants to choose from. Blue Moose Pizza in charming Beaver Creek Village is the perfect spot for a great lunch. During the summer you won’t have to fight the ski crowds or wait for a table. The weather is perfect for sitting outside and indulging in some of the best pizza around. So grab a slice (or three) and chow down like you mean it!

After gorging on pizza, you may want to explore the area and walk (or waddle) off some of that delicious fare. Fortunately there is plenty of shopping to keep you occupied and moving about. Take a casual stroll down idyllic cobblestone streets, winding past buildings that seem to have been plucked from a small European village. Venture into one of the many shops complete with antiques, fine clothing, or unique home furnishings. If you’re on a budget, pick up a few affordable souvenirs and browse through one of the many art galleries in town. Even if you don’t feel like spending money, there is plenty to see.

A long day of shopping can work up an appetite, so make sure to stop by restaurant Avondale in the Westin Riverfront Resort for a one of a kind cocktail and dinner. The ambiance is modern and stylish without being pretentious, with floor to ceiling glass windows that provide an exceptional view of the mountain at sunset. And the food, described as straight-forward American, is fantastic along with the service. It’s highly possible you’re going to be very full all over again, and it’s definitely worth it. There is also plenty of post-dinner seating next to fire pits outside if you feel like staying for a glass of wine. All in all, the perfect summer evening.
