While going to the movies has always been a traditional family outing for Oregonians, rising ticket prices and lost jobs, especially in the Portland and surrounding area, have gradually kept faithful movie goers attending traditional movies theatres less and less, or not at all. If you want to still keep the movie experience, and not have to resort to Top Ramen for dinner, the following independent movie theatres in the Portland Metro area might be worth considering.

First, there is a crazy selection of food and beverages. Pizzas, hot dogs, fruits, and vegetables bring a variety to each and every movie attendee, as well as both alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. There is also a babysitting option for shows between Thursday and Sunday, for movies beginning before 8 PM, at a rate of $8 per child. Keep in mind that you must call ahead a week in advance for this service, as it is reservation only. Tickets for shows run $4 adults and $3 for children 12 and under, including senior citizens. With cult classics, foreign films, and Hollywood re-runs, there is an option for each and every movie junkie’s taste. Evening showings between 7 and 9 PM. Are 21 and older only, but children are allowed for matinee films Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A separate café offers plenty of food, including pizza and local beer favorites for the thirsty and hungry appetite.Prices for admission are $4.00 general admission, $3.00 for seniors and shows before 6 p.m., and $2 for children 12 and under. Living Room Theatres- Address: 341 SW 10th Avenue, Portland, Oregon, Phone Number: (503)-222-2010. Uptown movie enthusiasts will love this location because you gain the downtown feel for less than the traditional “Where it’s happnin’ price.” Located in a restored area of Portland, there are plenty of retail stores and restaurants to entertain you before or after the movie. As far as the movie experience itself goes, the Living Room Theatre offers a mixture of all kinds of independent movies, and limited time only documentaries. Bay shrimp, avocado salad, and a full bar accent this movie paradise. Prices are $9.00 for general admission, $7.00 for movies, before 5:00 p.m., $6.00 for students and teachers providing proper identification as well as senior citizens, and $5.00 Monday and Tuesday special excluding holidays and 3-D movies. 3-D films are $12 general admission, $10 before 4:00 p.m., and $10 children ages 3-12 for the entire day.
