2012 Horror Movie Release Schedule

2011 was filled with horror movies like “Scream 4,” “Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark,” “Paranormal Activity 3″ and “The Thing.” Even without a new “Saw” sequel, there were plenty of scares to go around and these scares will continue right into 2012.

Look for remakes, sequels and a lot of blood as the horror genre spreads out through the first half of 2012.

January

The Possession

“Spider-Man” and “Evil Dead” director Sam Raimi produces this chiller that follow an evil curse upon a young girl. The curse occurs after the girl purchases a small antique box. Raimi loves curses and this is sure to feature a lot of scares and supernatural horror. The use of young actors can be a hit or miss for the scares, but co-star Quinn Lord has had a lot of horror experience in titles like “White Noise 2″ and Showtime’s “Masters of Horror.”

The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes

Seven years after the remake of the original “Amityville Horror” comes this uninspired sequel. It appears none of the original cast is returning to this one, so expect a new cast and plot for the haunted house sequel.

February

The Devil Inside

Celebrate the month of love with your significant other and view “The Devil Inside.” It seems like an exorcism movie is becoming an annual tradition and this only takes place in Italy. Hopefully the film can top other exorcisms in the past as it adds a mysterious back story and unique locations.

March

The Raven

“The Hunger Games” movie adaptation will take up most movie viewers’ time in March, but the horror/thriller “The Raven” manages to sneak in. The film follows the story of Edgar Allen Poe as he tries to track down a serial killer that copies all of the deaths from his writings. The interesting plot could be enough to woo in viewers, but some intense scares and recreations of the classic stories could become a classic cult horror film.

April

The House at the End of the Street

A family moves next to the home where a teenage girl murdered her parents. With the girl still living there she gets a little too close for comfort and things get scary. The suburbia horror has been done many times before, but the sub-genre works and can have a hit success like “Disturbia.” If the scares and plot flow right, the movie could be a great teenage horror.

The Cabin in the Woods

The long-delayed MGM horror “The Cabin in the Woods” may finally see theaters in 2012. The movie has kept its mystery wrapped up tight and hopefully it delivers after fans have waited years to see the title.

May

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton helms his first vampire movie, which is an adaptation of the TV show “Dark Shadows.” With Burton’s regular leading man Johnny Depp, expect a lot of oddity, a good amount of horror and some amazing sets. Burton has been on a remake craze and hopefully he can still deliver here.
