2011 NFL Awards

MVP- Drew Brees

It could go either way when it comes to the MVP award Aaron Rodgers set the single season quarterback rating this season. While Drew Brees set the new single season passing yard record. Brees altogether put up a better season, throwing for 46 TD’s, 5476 yards, and a 71.2 completion percentage. It’s very close race for MVP but I personally believe Drew Brees has earned it.

Offensive Player of the Year- Calvin Johnson

Johnson was the only receiver this season to average over a hundred yards. Johnson had close to 1700 yards and caught 16 TD’s. This award could go to a number of players but I think Johnson has put up the most impressive numbers.

Defensive Player of the Year- Terrell Suggs

There some other players such as Jared Allen or DeMarcus Ware that have put up better numbers this season, but Suggs anchored the Ravens defense and made big plays in big games when they needed him. In fact Suggs played an important role in the Ravens sweeping the Steelers this season, he had 3 sacks in the first game and got an interception in the second game. Suggs had to take up a lot of the defensive load when Ray Lewis was out for a 4 game stretch. Suggs has made plays for the Ravens when they needed it this season there aren’t many players that deserve the award as much as him.

Coach of the Year- Jim Harbaugh

There is no question in my mind who the coach of the year is, Jim Harbaugh. He led the 49ers to a 13-3 record when their previous record was 6-10. Harbaugh led the 49ers to a #2 seed and their first playoff appearance since 2002. It’s pretty amazing what changes the 49ers have made in one season that has led them back to playoff glory and how Jim Harbaugh has impacted this team.

Offensive Rookie of the Year- Andy Dalton

Most will have Cam Newton receiving this award but I think Dalton deserves it. Dalton in his rookie season has led his team to nine wins and a playoff berth. Dalton has shown some good rookie numbers throwing for 20 TD’s and over 3300 yards. I’ll take wins over stats any day, that’s why I think Dalton edges out Cam Newton.

Defensive Rookie of the Year- Von Miller

This year when you think Broncos of course you think Tim Tebow, but the defense has quietly been doing a great job especially Von Miller. Miller racked up 11.5 sacks and 50 tackles. Close runner-up scarcely known Aldon Smith put up some fantastic numbers as well, 15 sacks and even a safety.
