menstruation on family vacation???
Q: I'm a teenager with a very short menstrual cycle. It generally lasts about 23-25 days, and because the universe is being a dooodoo head, I'm going to have my period right when I go on my family vacation with my parents. My cramps last about a day and a half and are so bad that I usually throw up about 5 times, and lock myself in the bathroom. My sister is an OBGYN doctor and I asked her if she could do anything for me, but unfortunately she said since we're related, the only thing she could do is to write a perscription to stop my nausea. I do wear tampons, but it's still uncomfertable to swim with them because of all the pressure on my abdomen. What can I do to make my period less severe while on vacation? Birth control is very unrealistic because1. There isn't enough time to start a birth control regiment before I leaveAnd 2. My parents.I feel like the nausea perscription will help, but I still want to be able to go swimming and go for hikes and what not. Any help?????
A: If you see your doctor, you can get norethisterone tablets. You only need to start taking them three days before you're due, and it will delay your period until you stop taking them.It is NOT a contraceptive, so your parents won't need to be concerned.

A: Unfortunately, the only thing I can recommend in your case (and since you can't start birth control) is to take some Ibuprofen. They don't sell prescription strength (800mg) in the stores OTC, but you can see if your sister can write you a prescription for them. I take one of those and am good for the whole day (and that's debilitating cramps, too!).Good Luck and hope you can enjoy your vacation!
