What is the recovery time when you have a brain aneurysm ?
Q: A friend of mine, on May 26, 2006, after severe headaches and hospital visits, found out after collapsing, that she had 3 aneurysms & one had burst. She had surgery the following next day. Now it is July, and she still does not talk. She will squeeze your hand on occasion and other times she does not respond at all. She is finally off the respirator and breathing on her own. Does anyone know the recovery time for a ruptured brain aneurysm? The doctor said we have to take it day by day and see.

What is the recovery time after having surgery for a popliteal aneurysm repair?
Q: I have a large left popliteal aneurysm and anticipate surgery for it soon.If you've recently undergone this surgery (or are medical expert); how many days must I be in the hospital? Will I be sent home on crutches, or? How long till I can use that leg again and have normal activities? Any other possible complications I should know about? I'm a 54 yr old male, ht. proportionate to wt., if that matters, and I live alone. Surgery will be at the esteemed Cleveland Clinic.) Thanks very much. ( I meet with the surgeon in two weeks, but want to plan and anticipate in advance.)
A: 1) Most commonly, it's repaired by a bypass. Either a piece of your own vein or a piece of an artificial material is used to exclude blood flow from the aneurysm.2) Depending on the patient, you could be in for 3 - 5 days, barring problems3) Most patient's don't need crutches, especially as young as you are4) Sutures / staples will come out in 7 - 10 days.5) By normal activities, if you mean walking, shopping, etc. You'll be doing well by two weeks.6) By the way, you should likely be checked for aneurysms in the abdomen or other blood vessels in the legsGood luck!
Survivors of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. What type of therapy did you have? For how long?
Q: I had a left brain rupture that left me blind in my right eye, paralyzed on my right side, and in a coma for ten days. I have no memory of the year and a half of my life after the rupture. I had a year and a half of physical therapy, speech, and occupational therapy. I am 95% recovered, but I had to relearn everything a newborn child would learn: Be toilet trained, brush my teeth, walk, talk, etc. It took the speech therapist a month to teach me how to print the letters A, B, and C.The insurance policy that I had at the time of my rupture had no limits on the length of my therapy. It was May 31, 1993. Several years later the company that I had worked for switched the institutional policy to Blue Cross/Blue Shield which had a 100 days outpatient therapy limit. If that policy had been in effect when I had the rupture, I would be a vegetable today. I would like to know how your insurance policy effected your recovery.
A: As a physical therapist, this frustrates me to no end. 100 visits is actually still pretty good. I've seen many policies that have absolutely horrendous benefits...my own...BCBS PPO has a limit of $4,000...in a hospital based setting, that might get you 8 visits of each discipline. Some Unicare PPO policies only pay for 12 visits and only cover $25 a visit (my goodness, why even bother), finally, the worst I had recently was one that had a $1,000 limit. It disgusts me that the policies determine what type of medical care you get and that they are willing to pay for surgery and hospitalization, but not for recovery. For example, if you have a rotator cuff repair, it typically requires 3-5 months of therapy...so they will pay for the surgery, but not for the recovery. There are review processes in place, but usually by the time insurance companies will offer more benefits (about a 3 month wait), the damage is already done.Disgusting...I'm thinking of starting a private insurance policy just for PT coverage!!!
