Contractions or Uterus Stretching?
Q: This is my first pregnancy so I am not quite sure what real contractions feel like. Sometimes the descriptions from others will throw me off with my own experiences. Alot of ppl say that Contractions feel like menstrual cramps and those same people will talk about how painful and a stabbing feeling it is. While my menstrual cramps are usually a dull ache and more annoying than painful. Earlier today ( I'm 33 weeks) I was sitting in my livingroom and I felt an onset of a menstrual cramp and it was pretty intense but nothing I couldn't deal with. It was a dull ache. About 30 seconds into it the baby started moving pretty violently and I felt him alot farther down. This didn't help with the pain and only made it a little more uncomfortable. This lasted another 30 seconds to 1 min. And then it stopped. That was it. Does that sound like a contraction to you? I know that Braxton Hicks contractions are typically felt in the upper abdomen and in the front only and are much like a muscle tightness. I've had Braxton Hicks contractions for awhile so I do not believe that what I experienced earlier was a BH contraction.
A: It could have been contractions, but since it went away on it's own I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of times when I feel my baby moving a lot or when he pushes down lower it feels like menstrual cramps to me. I actually went to the doctor for it earlier in my pregnancy and she said it was just the baby really changing positions. Maybe that's what you were experiencing? It wouldn't hurt to mention it to your doctor at your next appointment though. Good luck!
pelvic pain question!! (please help!)?
Q: ok i know i can't be diagnosed via yahoo answers, but i'm just wondering based on personal experiences. so if you have any to share that might help me out please do!ok so here's my situation:since last friday (the 28th) i started getting little pains, kinda like menstrual cramps (but they were not because my period ended around the 26th-27th), and i wasn't too concerned. i had sex that day and it burned ALOT after, which concerned me but the burning stopped about halfway through the next day so then i didn't really think much about it. That next day (saturday the 29th) i was still getting these weird cramps, and i was getting REALLY nauseous, especially after i ate. that night i felt so sick i just had an awful stomach ache and was in bed feeling sick to my stomach it was hard to even move (i felt like i was going to vomit but never actually did). By the next day, (sunday the 30th) i was still nauseous, but the intense nausea had subsided from the night before. the nauseousness continued throughout the rest of the week when i would eat and my appetite was not very high. The weird cramps continued to worsen and become more frequent. I had been taking ibuprofen and it was doing nothing, and tums for the nausea and that didn't really seem to work either. So by thursday the pain was getting pretty bad so i went to the doctor. She told me it was probably an ovarian cyst and told me that i needed to get an ultra sound on my pelvis as soon as i could. ( i was also tested for pregnancy, ghonorrea, and chlamydia, and was negative for all of them). So we called and couldn't get the ultra sound until monday the 7th. This was such a bummer because the pain was getting a lot worse, and although the pain was present a little bit to the left and the center, it was very distinctly on the right. I am a full time dancer, and have a high pain tolerance, and i was able to dance through and put up with it on friday, even though it was painful, but on saturday the pain was too intense to even really walk. It kept getting worse, so saturday night (yesterday, june 5th) my parents took me to the ER. We went and they did a blood test and an ultra sound (and gave me morphine and IV's and all that jazz). The ultra sound showed a small cyst on the left, and only a little bit of fluid on the right, but they couldn't see my appendix. My blood was completely normal, so they said it couldn't be my appendix. Basically, it turned out that they said i needed to go to the gyno and get checked out but the doctor was kinda like yeah nothing is really wrong with you. the REALLYY pissed me off it was so painful, and i don't exaggerate pain, and i'm not a wuss! lol it was just really really painful! idk i'm just frustrated because it doesn't seem like there is a problem, but there is no way that this is normal! the doc tried telling me "well maybe it is a sore muscle" and that really got on my last nerve. i am training to be a professional dancer, and believe me i know pain and i am VERY familiar with sores muscles, this was FAR beyond that feeling. UGH i'm just soooo frustrated!!! has anyone ever had a similar experience and found out what the problem was??
A: Hi Liz. First off, I want to highly advise you to ignore "Douglas B's" answer. That is the most ridiculous answer I ever heard. Uhhh, since I don't think I have ever heard of a female named *Douglas*, I highly doubt he has had the same problem, lol. There is no way he can *diagnose* that you have *pinched nerves* in your back! I'm sorry you are going through all this, but I totally think you need to be seen by an ob/gyn physician. There is no way I can even speculate what might be going on with you, but I just wanted to say that endometriosis can cause similar symptoms....not typically nausea, but the nausea could be secondary to the severe pain. I am a nurse and have worked in the area of ob/gyn. I also have had personal experience with endometriosis. It is VERY hard to diagnose and many women never get a diagnosis. Endometriosis occurs when the uterine contents (menstrual blood) for some unknown reason, back up into the fallopian tubes and sort of *regurgitate* onto the outside of the reproductive organs. This endometrial tissue can build up and *stick* to other organs, including the bladder and the entire abdominal cavity. This causes a great deal of pain, even when you're not on your cycle. Periods are usually very painful with excessive bleeding. Sexual intercourse can also be painful. Endometriosis isn't normally visible on an ultrasound. Sometimes it can be treated with hormonal therapy (birth control pills or progesterone). It is actually *fed* by increased estrogen levels. NSAIDs like ibuprofen, naproxin, etc. are most often advised for pain relief because they actually do help decrease the prostaglandins (which are causing the pain), whereas Tylenol or opiate painkillers simply numb our perception of the pain. Again, I am, in no way, trying to tell you what you have, but just wanted to give you something to investigate. It is a very common problem among females of reproductive age. I hope you find out what's wrong and feel better soon. Feel free to email me if you would like assistance with more info.

A: I have never had this problem, but ovarian cysts are common in women. And the symptoms do sound like it. On any given day a "normal" human being should always be a 0 on pain levels. Since it sounds like you are at a 9 or 10 for the past weeks, something is very wrong. I would either go back to the gyno, and tell them to fix your sh** or change doctors. Believe me, all of my doctors hate me because I don't leave until I have the answers I need. That's bs that a doctor would tell you it's nothing. They are there to preform their duty. Once you obtain the correct answers it should be a smooth road. Ovarian cysts usually clear up with the right medication, even some birth controls help with decrease of cysts. All in all, if your in pain, get your doctor and tell them to fix you! Don't let them try to push you away because their "busy". Hope this helps and good LUck!!
