- Q: For the last 3-4 months, my period has changed strangely. I have always had a very long and slightly irregular cycle (33 or more days, it's been a while since I counted), but lately around when I feel my period is supposed to start, I'll get one day of very, very light bleeding followed by a few days of light but constant cramps, with my period coming almost a week later. I know it's normal for some women to have cramps with PMS, but I've never had physical symptoms with my PMS; the cramping comes DURING the bleeding.It's like I have three stages all of a sudden... week of normal PMS (emotional roller coaster but no physical symptoms) -> week of constant cramps -> period. What gives? What's with the sudden change these last few months? I've had my period for 11 years now (I'm 25) and never had anything like this happen before.
- A: Mine does the same thing! it's like in a month you only have a week where you feel ok, therest of the time your dealing with all kinds of "pms" symptoms! Althou, mines been this way for a few years now! it started when I got my tubes tied! - Q: I am on birth control (Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, have been on it for about 7 months), but have recently been on various kinds of antibiotics for health related issues. I experienced a condom-breaking incidence, and decided to get plan B from my local Planned Parenthood, as I am well aware of the studies showing that antibiotics may render the ordinary birth control pill ineffective.My question is now as follows...I know Plan B may cause menstrual changes. Now, I've been on ordinary birth control and have a regular menstrual cycle that is to start next week... What are the chances of it being unaffected if I just continue using my regular birth control pills in addition to Plan B?SHOULD I even be using my regular birth control bills in conjunction to Plan B? Am I going to get an overload of hormones?And if my period is delayed, should I wait to start my next Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo cycle until after my next period, or just continue on the same cycle/schedule I've been going on?Thanks!
- A: You should really talk to your doctor about this.Plan B will usually cause your menstrual cycle to start early, so it is likely that the pill will indeed affect your cycle.Plan B is basically a high dosage of birth control. I'm not sure if it is a wise idea to use it when you are already taking other birth control...if I were you I would definitely consult my physician to make sure that amount of hormones is safe to use. But you're right that antibiotics can affect how effective your birth control is...so it's possible you can go ahead and use the Plan B.Just ask your doctor; s/he will know more than people here.
