- Freak horse accident...?
- Q: Okay, well my trainer had this great 4 year old OTTB who she saved from the horse trader. He was doing really well, and had big plans for him, then last Saturday her and her students went on a little trail ride. He had been acting a little spookier then he normally does, then he all of a sudden reared up and my trainer slid off. When she went to go get him he fell over and started bleeding from his head (sevral places). She got the kids away (I dont know how much they saw), but when the vet got there they had to put him down. He had died from a brain anurism(sp?)How could this have happened, my trainer feels awful. We do not know were he came from other than the horse trader, so could it have been prevented, or is it one of those things you just cant stop? I have heard of eventing horses dieing from them, so is it just common in Thoroughbreds? Thanks.
- A: I'm sorry to hear about this. Unfortunately is was a freak accident. Aneurysms are basically nearly impossible to find, as you will never show symptoms of any sort from it. There are cases that they are accidentally stumbled upon, and can therefor be treated, but it really is pretty much impossible to prevent. Once it happens, it's basically the end right then and there. Also I have not heard of it being more common in one breed of horse vs another.Nobody should feel bad about what happened, it wasn't anyone's fault.
