- Can running make menstrual cramps worse?
- Q: I know exercise is meant to lessen their severity, but can running in fact worsen period pains?I experience this during periods, after running distances that I can otherwise do comfortably, resulting in painful cramps, nausea, and etc. I don't normally get menstrual symptoms, either.Has anyone else experienced this; is it normal? Anyone got any suggestions as to how to prevent or ease it? Thanks.
- A: Are you getting enough water (salt will worsen the cramps) in your system to make up for your running AND menstruating? This may be part of the problem. Make sure you are getting the extra fluid your body needs to handle both situations.
- Vicodin make my cramps worse in the long run?
- Q: I have been prescribed vicodin for my very painful menstrual cramps because everything over the counter is too weak. However, I have not taken them yet because I am worried that if I take one vicodin for every month, overtime won't I need larger and larger doses? I am afriad of developing an addiction like the women on Oprah did to vicodin, but my cramps get so bad that I really want some peace.IF I start taking vicodin with my period and adjust my diet / lifestyle, lose weight, etc. over time will I be able to come off the vicodin to a slightly painful (but bearable) period. I've been eating healthy a few but I do not think it has kicked in yet.I am worried that in the future after starting with vicodin, that someday when I do not have any, my cramps will be worse than they ever will. Could this happen?
- A: You build up a tolerance to Vicodin if you take it constanly. People who are addicted take it alot and therefore, need to take more and more to get the same effect. If you are only taking it for your cramps, once a month, u will be fine. Also, pain meds change the chemical make-up in your brain. People who take narcotics around the clock will, eventually, have worse pain and even experience phantom pain. But, like I said, once a month for a week is fine. Good Luck!!!!
- Taking too much Advil for menstrual cramps make Midol ineffective?
- Q: I get really bad menstrual cramps and in the past only took Midol, but for a year now I've switched to Advil because it works better. I end up taking 6-8 Advil in 48 hours, although I know on the bottle it says not to take more than 6. I figured all that Advil would be bad for me in the long run, so I switched back to Midol, but found that it did absolutely nothing. I didn't think this would happen since there are different chemicals in each- acetaminophen in Midol and ibuprofen in Advil. I'm also afraid that since I take so much Advil at once it'll be ineffective when I try taking it for pain other than my cramps. I'm looking for chemical solutions because I'm desperate and lazy. Are prescription painkillers worth it? Do birth control pills ease the cramps?I take an Advil every 4-6 hours during the first two days of my period.Hunny- Thanks for the advice, I'm going to check out the Nurofen Plus. I do use one of those heat therapy sticker pad things, it does help. If I could choose a best answer it'd be yours :]
- A: You poor thing, i know how you feel. Mine are bad too and last for 9 days. Please don't take too much tablets, as they are not good for you.Have you tried Nurofen Plus, they work really well. Also try putting a hot water bottle on your stomach. When i was on the pill i had such bad side effects, i became suicidal, had a very, very sore chest and would constantly vomit. It made me feel so bad. The doctor put me on different ones but then concluded that the pill was just not for me.Talk to your doctor and see what they advise. they may know of some tablet that will be more effective. All the best.
