continuous migraines, curious how to obtain medicinal marijuana?
Q: for the past 5 years I have suffered from migraine headaches and I have become immune to over-the-counter medicines like tylenol, ibuprofin, advil, etc. I took it a step further and started using Excedrin for migraines. Right now, this is the only thing that seems to help me at all.The only thing is the caffeine in the pill causes me to become sleepless! I started smoking weed pretty often to help ease my headaches and it worked. Id rather smoke herb than take pills for the rest of my life...or at least to switch it around for a while.I also have mild insomnia, and SEVERE menstrual cramps. I don't smoke weed to get high and stup*d, I smoke, ease my migraine, and go straight to sleep like a baby for once. What is a legal way for me to get a medical license? I want to speak to my Doctor about it but I don't know if I should request it myself because I don't want him to think Im a pot head. I actually do have conditions...I live in the state of CA (Los Angeles) where I know this is allowed and I am also 19 yrs old.Thanks.
A: Not to sound discouraging but there are more effective treatments for migraines than Excedrin. Imitrex is one that comes to mind. I understand your concerns about approaching the subject of medicinal marijuana with your physician. Actually, you would most likely be denied. Generally speaking, most physicians don't know enough about marijuana and will tell you it will not work. However, most physicians will also tell you that chiropractors are quacks. If you have used marijuana and have found it to be a useful treatment for your headaches, insomnia and cramps then you need to request a copy of your medical records from your doctor. By law they have to provide them to you and most will do it free of charge. When you have your medical records in hand, go to www.canorml.org and look for the closest medical marijuana doctor in your area. If you are in LA, I highly recommend Dr. Alfonso Jimenez. You can find his website at www.mmofla.com. Make an appointment and go talk to him. He is very cool and really easy to talk to. You will not be disappointed. Be sure to take your medical records with you to your appointment. Also, if you prequalify and pay for your office visit online, you will save yourself $75. Cheers.
