- Q: Ok so I did a little searching and found my answer to how long will her menstrual cycle last, but now Im a little confused on when it will return? Is the dogs menstrual cycle the same as a human every month or does it not return til about like 120-150 days like I read somewhere in reference to the period of anestrus? Thanks for any help on this, i just want to know if when my dog finally gets past this will she have it soon again or can we take a break from it for a while? She is only 9 months by the way.
- A: Dogs go into heat approximately every 6 months, so you have a while before the next one. I rec. spaying her if you are not planning to breed her to head of some serious potential health risks such as mammary tumors, pyometra( potentially fatal uterine infection). These are very common after age 5-6. If you are planning to breed her, wait until she is 2 years old- before this her body is not mature enough to handle pregnancy. Good luck!

- A: If you get the dog spayed it will not have menstrual periods. If you don't get her spayed, she will, like all female mammals, have a menses cycle from the age of puberty through menopause.Fix the dog, regardless of whether you get the boy or the girl and please, train it.

- Q: who long do pugs get their period ? how often ? could the pug be neutered after shes had her''period''? please tell me the proper name for a dog's mentrual cycle? thanks very mucho
- A: The term is estrus. It will begin at about 7-18 months, depending on the breed, and she will cycle every 6 (roughly) months until she is spayed..the first two cycles may vary in length between..she will have a blood-tinged discharge for about a week, produce eggs the second week and be able to breed during that week, and still attract males for about another week..So, the whole ordeal lasts about 3 weeks..
