Are Menstrual cramps a sign of labor getting here soon?

This is a sign that you are in fact gearing up for labor. Your muscles are getting ready to do the work. When the pains last longer than one hour and are about 10 minutes apart it would be time to call the doctor.

37 weeks pregnant aches and pains?
Q: ok..so this morning i thought i might have been leaking amniotic fluid, but it stopped, i still went to the doc..and they said it didn't seem to be fluid!! Well now a few hours later, i am constantly in the bathroom..i have sharp pain in my lower back (right side) that comes and goes and what seems to be a sharp cramping feeling on the inside of my right thigh!! i have very mild menstrual/gassy type cramps in my lower abdomen also...it seems like i have to go to the bathroom (#2) but i have already gone A LOT today! i am trying to time my contractions, which i can feel but arent exactly painful, but its very hard to determine! i also noticed in last couple of days i have lost a bit of weight! are these signs of pre labor and if so..when should i go to the doctor?
A: Yeah, you're in labor, but not "full-blown". Your water will probably break here in the next day or two. Not sure about the weight-loss thing unless you just haven't been eating as much as usual because you've lost your appetite a bit..?? If you've been eating the same, but have lost weight, then you need to make a trip to your doctor to get checked out, just to be safe. Other than that, sounds like you're really, really close. Keep timing what you can on your contractions...I know that's hard if it's a menstrual feeling...but the water-breaking will be the absolute SURE sign that you are in full-blown labor, and you'll need to head to the hospital right away when that happens. Good luck!*edit*: HA! I had these exact signs when I went into labor with my last two babies. Thumbs-down me all you want...I'd love to know how this turns out in the next couple of days.
What is happening to my lower left side from mid to complete side of hip?
Q: What is happening to my lower left side from mid to complete side of hip?I had small cramps like gas or menstrual cramps all day Friday, by that evening at around 8pm, it got worse, like contractions during labor, but I am not pregnant, just got off my period a week prior to this...went to the ER that night because the pain never let up...as the hour turned into 3 hours, I had an x ray, blood work, urine sample...no signs of anything, no high white blood count, nothing...but there was pain. The doctor came in after 4 hours of sitting, pain had subsided, but felt like somebody punched me in my side earlier...he said I had two options, a cat scan or go home and if it starts back hurting worse, come back...after seeing my spouse and my son sitting there with toothpicks in their eyes, I decided to go home. He prescribed me pain medicine and I was discharged. I still feel bad, I still have those pains, but with the meds I don't feel it as much....I told my husband that I had rather just tough it out and see my gyn doc. I have an appointment on Thursday luckily...does anybody know anything about this type of a symptom or can you tell me if you know of somebody that has gone through this...my sister had a tumor on her appendix, but her blood count was normal, she had to have surgery immediately...so did I do the right thing by leaving and waiting it out to see my doctor?I have no idea was PCOS is...I haven't seen my gyn doc since Dec 2005, which at the time my BP was of more concern than anything...he did do an ultrasound in the office and found that I had cyst on my ovaries, but was not concerned at the time...I know, I had going to doctors unless something like this arrives then I want to find out what's wrong...what is PCOS
A: well, it isn't your appendix, that is on the lower RIGHT side. When was the last time you had a normal bowel movement? Do you have a history of PCOS? The hospital's workup shows you are in no immediate danger, so I think you did the right thing to wait and see your own doctor as he knows you and your history better.
