A: Just how bad is you kitten’s breath?Maybe you think it’s bad and it’s just normal kitten breath. If it’s not really too bad you cat may just need a change of diet to a healthier food.If the odor is really bad it could be a sign of an infection of his teeth or gums. Check to see if the gums are red or raw, look at the gums above the back teeth. It could be gingivitis or gum disease. http://www.petplace.com/cats/gingivitis-in-cats/page1.aspxIf you notice any change in eating habits(like not wanting hard food) or grooming it is probably a medical problem that needs to be checked out by a vet.If the vet checks your kitten over and there’s nothing wrong you can start brushing her teeth and the bad breath should go away.
Why does my kitten have bad breath?
Q: I have a kitten that i saved back in august, He was being attacked by a dog. He is about 5 months old now id say. We have taking him to the vet a few times before because of damage the dog did to him. They fix him up and said he was healthy. We have been feeding him the same food from the start. And then a while ago started giving him some canned food every so often. We noticed a few months ago that his breath smelt kinda fishy, and now its even worse its such a nasty smell, before we could only smell it when he licked us, but now you can smell it if he is just sitting by you. He is a very very hyper kitty. He is an indoor kitty, he bounces off the walls. I also noticed that some times he seems like he is having a little trouble breathing, well it just sounds kinda raspy. Anyways i have looked up stuff on here and people say tarter build up and disease but it doesn’t seem to fit any of those categories much. If you know anything let me know!!! Thank you!!
A: I know it may seem weird, but sometimes a cat will eat their own feces. It may not be a lot, so it might not be noticeable, but it is definitely a possibility.Another cause could be an ear infection. The ears are so close to the mouth it may just seem like bad breath. Ear infections cause bacterial growth in ears that smell absolutely foul. Check out his ears to see if that is what smells.Sometimes a foul odor might originate in the stomach or another part of the body. The cause may also be in the bloodstream be released through the mouth. It may be expeniseve for a vet to diagnose, but if it persists, and you know for sure its not gum disease, an ear infection, tartar build-up, or eating of feces, check with a vet and get some blood tests done. It could be something that can be diagnosed externally.

Q: she doesnt eat anything overly offensive, and she can only eat kitten food at the moment. the only kitten food (wet food) on the market at the moment is whiskas, the sachets in a box stuff. she eats one of them a day, and at the moment is eating a mixture of (dry food) whiskas vita-bites and coles complete cuisine. she gets the optimum biscuits usually. her breath smells like off chicken / really bad fish.she’s about 6 months old.. i give her those dentabite things very occasionally, to try and keep her teeth clean coz her breath is so bad.im not sure why its so bad, ive never had a cat with such bad breath!what may it be from? she eats fine, she is regularly urinating and having regular bowel movements and all… she’s active and very loving, often wanting to lick me to death, which is a shame due to her bad breath.any advice? thanks for reading, and thanks for answering 🙂 :)hehe. i did brush her teeth the other day, with an old toothbrush of mine.. she sat and let me, maybe i should make it a regular thing
