OK, I would talk to a parent or guardian for this. Maybe they could take you in to see your doctor, the one who did your surgery, if there is anything you could do. I wouldn’t trust people you don’t know about this. Like with medicines to p…

Prophylactic mastectomy and reconstruction surgery?
Q: I live in fear of getting breast cancer. My heart was broken when I found out my mom had it. At least she is in remission, but I still have no peace of mind. I had my 30th birthday recently but any woman can get this illness and the fact that my mom had it makes me feel like I have the sword of Damocles hanging over my head.I know that prophylactic surgery can drastically reduce your chances of getting breast cancer… by 90 per cent. I have some doubts, though. How would you PAY for the surgery? How can anyone afford to have prophylactic surgery and reconstruction surgery? I don’t wanna get cancer but I don’t wanna be flatchested either. I would rather have the surgery where they use abdominal tissue, rather than silicone. I’m really worried about how I’m going to pay for all this surgery but I don’t want to live in fear. It makes me angry because people ought to be able to get what they need. Furthermore, I really worry that no one is every going to want me or be attracted to me. I’ve never been married and I feel sad to think that no one will be interested in me because of this… even if you have reconstruction I imagine it leaves scars, which are ugly. I’m afraid that if I were married and had this surgery that my husband would cheat on me, or leave me, and I almost feel guilty expecting him to be faithful to me. If I loved someone I would want them to be with someone to whom they were attracted. So how do you afford it? I don’t wanna live in fear. How do I deal with the possibility that no one will be attracted to me or want me?Thanks if you can help.I’m not borrowing trouble, but I realize what my risk is and I don’t want to live my life in fear. If there’s something I can do to prevent getting cancer, and I think it’s worth it… I would do it to live in peace. If your mom had breast cancer, isn’t that one of the most important criteria, if not the number one criterion?
A: You begin this process by making an appointment with a board certified plastic -reconstructive surgeonYou ask them all of the questions that you have asked us here. You ask to see pictures of the results of their operations.-all plastic surgeons take pictures There very specific criteria that a board certified plastic reconstructive surgeon must follow if they are going to prophylacticaly remove your breasts and then do reconstructive surgery to restore them to reasonably close to their original shape and formKnow that if you don’t meet that criteria then no competent responsible surgeon will perform that operation which means that if you do find somebody that will then that MD is neither competent nor responsibleGood luckUpdatehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15495033?ordinalpos=6&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum
What can i expect after having back surgery & a metal plate put in is causing me severe pain still?
Q: had back surgery in febuary.they put a metal plate in my back. they did a 360 surgery on me. thats where they cut mystomache go from that side & flip me & due the back side. I got hurt at work and workcomp doctors said i needed the surgery, so i had it done! I am still having pain Not as bad but i still have it. The scars look ugly” and i am planning to follow thru with attorney on this. I complained & complained to the company to fix the door to the truck & because they failed to fix it i got hurt and to this day it still is not fixed. what would you do ? what would you expect them to do & pay for this kind of injury? Help” i need advice…
A: Workers’ compensation insurance is a complicated business. Sorry to hear you are still having pain. You are entitled to see a different doctor to evaluate your pain. It could be something else needs to be done, or you need therapy or something else. Eventually your doctor will make a determination about whether or not you can go back to your job. Depending on which state you live in you will either get a settlement or other method of financial compensation for your loss of earnings power. You are entitled to future care for your injury if you don’t fully heal up or you need something like crutches or a wheelchair. Your state will have an advice website somewhere that will tell you a lot about the workers’ compensation system. Attorneys can definitely help some workers. The drawbacks are that you share your compensation with them as payment to the attorney. Some patients that get tangled up with attorneys seem to get so into the role of being sick that they have a hard time getting well. You can also complain to your state’s worker safety enforcement organization that your employer knew about the safety hazard and did not take steps to mitigate the hazard. This could get them in legal trouble. The best thing you can do is try to heal up and get on with your life. Otherwise you may have money but be totally miserable. Caution is in order. Good luck.
I am planning on having surgery to remove plates and screws , suggestions?
Q: Long story short, I got injured while on deployment w/ USMC. I have shattered my wrist pretty badly and both major bones(forgot the name) were out through skin. Anyway, I had a surgery where they inserted a single plate in each bone and a dozen screws per plate. Now 3 years later I am back in the civilian world and thinking about having all the hardware pulled out. I was told by the doctor that many people live out their lives with hardware but being 22yo I do not want to be in that statistic. I have minimul discomfort. It bothers me the most when it rains. I am also a natural bodybuilder, at 250lbs sometimes it hurts my wrist pretty bad when lifting heavy and it somewhat limits some of my exercises. What I really want to know is since that its been 3 years, how long will it take for both bones to heal once they pull the plates? Plates were laid on top of the bone and secured by the screws drilled into the bones so I would assume it will take time for the bone to heal the space where once screws were……….how much of a discomfort will it be? how physically limited will I be? and will there be a cast required? or can they just put me in a removable splint(at least per request)? Also, will they cut the skin over the original scar? The old scar has somewhat faded but still very noticable. I would like them to cut over the old ones if possible or will that somehow make the scar even bigger/wider??????ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED> THANK YOU FOLKS
A: If it’s not bothering you too much you might be better to take the doctor’s advice and leave the plate in. There is no guarantee that removing it will lessen the pain you do feel and you could make your wrist weaker. Arthritis may be the cause as this often occurs after bone surgery and the more surgery you have the more risk there is of arthritis developing.Chances are that surgeons would reopen the original scar but it would be longer and maybe wider.
