Q: My brother is overweight (6-2, 290 lbs). Do any of you know how much the lap band, stomach stapling, etc. cost? Do group insurance companies (he has HealthNet) even cover the cost of it?Serious answers only please. He does work out when he can, but he's a single dad working two jobs and rarely has time for that.Thanks.Anna
A: It's expensive in terms of money, and more expensive in terms of health. Please have him look into Dr. Furhman's approach. (I can't really call it a diet.) My wife has lost about 60 pounds without working out, in about 5 months. She is NOT hungry! She's eating plenty of food. Plus, she's completely off insulin, and much healthier in every way. A friend of her's lost 30 pounds in about a month! She also dropped her blood sugar by 90 points, which is amazing. Please look into it.http://www.drfurhman.comThis is not spam. I don't make a dime from anyone clicking that link. It's just his website.I hate spammers!
How much does the lap band surgery cost? on average? and how long are you on bed rest after the surgery?
Q: I live in Charleston SC btw... i dont know if anyone knows any local info as well.
A: The cost varies from $8000. and up. You are NOT on bed rest. You get up and walk at the hospital and you continue to walk as much as possible after you get home. My PCP's nurse had it on Friday and was back to work on Monday. I had it on Wednesday 4-16-08 and since I didn't take pain meds you can drive asap. Yes, you do get tired but that is normal. You rest when you need to. Go to LapBandSolutions.com and they can answer a lot more questions. Good Luck on your journey.
How much overweight do you have to be to have lap band surgery?
Q: I was just wondering how much overweight you have to be to have lap band surgery? I am 5' 6" and I weigh about 205. I have tried dieting, weight watchers and diet pills. I was just wondering if I would be a good canidate for the surgery??
A: definetly not. while you are overweight there is absolutely no medical research that can determine the long term effects of that procedure. however common sense would tell you that changing the physical nature of the gastro intestinal tract is not good.you have not been given the proper tools to lose weight, shoot me an email.
