Try an antibiotic cream or something like neosporin. If it doesn’t get any better see a Dr.Take the ring out and let it close and heal. My daughters tore through twice and now it’s healed but looks UGLY!

How long does it take for a dog to recover from a mammary gland abscess?
Q: My 10 year old mini dachshund woke up the other day with an infection in her mammary gland. This was a very fast moving infection. She was fine one day and couldn’t hold her head up the next. We took her to the vet immediately and the vet kept her for 2 days. While she was in the doggie hospital the infection caused an abscess in her mammary gland. The vet said it would probably open up and to clean it with peroxide, give her the antibiotics, and anti inflammatory medication. She said it would take 3 or 4 days to get her feeling a little bit better. I have been doing everything the vet told us to do, but she doesn’t seem to be getting much better. She is on day 5 of antibiotics. The abscess did open and has been draining for 3 days. The area around the abscess is missing all of the hair and is raw. That area seems to be getting bigger. I just want to know if anyone else has ever had this happen to their dog, and if this course of treatment is right? It just seems to me that she should be getting a lot better by now. I feel so sorry for her because I know she feels terrible, the only thing she does is drink water and sleep. I have talked to the vet everyday since she come home. So yes, I have called the vet about this, and the vet has called me.She is now back in the doggie hospital. The outlook does not look good, she has decreased kidney and liver function.
A: I would get a second opinion from another vet. Sounds like the one you have is not on top of the situation, especially if they told you to use peroxide on the open wound. I have been told by more than one vet never to use peroxide for anything other than cleaning up blood stains, for which it works very well. It is actually hard on living tissue. And if her abcess is getting bigger, she is not getting better.
