Symptoms of staph infection AFTER sinus surgery?
Q: (sorry, gross…) I’m about 3 months out from septoplasty/turbinate reduction/fess stuff, and my ENT says he got all the “crusts” out a long time ago and simply won’t to see me for three months. But I have an atrocious smell in my right nostril, and horrific looking green chunks of stuff (worse than any of my chronic sinus infections) along with thick light green mucous that comes out when I sinus-cleanse twice a day. I find it hard to believe that this is not a bad infection! I also take flonase every day, and had previously completed a 20 day round of antibiotics after the surgery. I am glad I had the surgery as in every other respect I can finally breathe and sleep better, but I am starting to obsess about the fact that the smell in my nose could possibly get so bad that others might smell it too. I am starting to worry I will never be able to date again! That might be a little dramatic, but this is what the constant smell is driving me to agonize over every day. Does this sound like a staph, or other infection to anyone? Should I try to find an ENT who will see me now?
A: I don’t know about staph infection but something doesn’t sound right. I’d call back and insist that he see me again. If he refuses, see another doctor. It’s your body and you have every right!
