Why the Proposed Congressional Spending Cuts Will Not Affect Me

According to a CNN Money, November 5, 2011 report, we may soon have more crime than usual on our streets, fewer guards patrolling our borders, more food poisoning cases, and (this one really got me) less reliable weather forecasts?

That’s right, the Super Committee, 12 men in congress designated to come up with 1.5 trillion in additional spending cuts over the next ten years – and – get the rest of Congress to agree with them. Pardon me if I laugh up my sleeve. I don’t see all members of Congress putting their own personal political agendas aside long enough to agree on much of anything.

The proposed deep budgetary cuts proposed by these “super men” of congress would have some pretty devastating and widely felt effects, if they were actually to occur. They would affect federal law enforcement agencies, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, among others.

I would consider perhaps even arming myself with a personal weapon with the deep law enforcement cuts proposed; or even start growing my own food to avoid buying contaminated food in our stores. If all these cuts were to happen, I would definitely be affected. That is a big “if.” Truthfully, I think these drastic cuts everyone is getting so worked up about will not be affecting me one iota. Why so glee and unconcerned you might ask?

Who of you remembers earlier this year the government shut-down that didn’t happen? At the midnight hour, a compromise was reached and all in our world was well again. So all the fears of Veterans who thought they would lose their benefits, older Americans who were worried about losing the Social Security benefits, and military personnel who believed they would go without pay; turned out to all be unfounded. Yes, everyone, including myself, would have been in a world of hurt had our government actually shut down.

I could be wrong about these proposed cuts by the Super Committee, but I hope I am right. My take is that again, at the midnight hour, someone will come riding in on his white horse and work out a deal among the members of Congress. Then, once again, all in our world will be well again.
