Why Bother Trying Another Diet?

I know there are thousands of people in the world who are going through or have gone through what I am experiencing now. In fact I have gone through this same experience a number of times. I am hoping this will be the last time.

I have decided to try one more diet. My weight has reached over 250 pounds. This is entirely too much weight for a body to carry around. Every time I get up out of a chair my hips hurt. I have to stand still for a few seconds in order for the pain to subside before I begin walking. When trying to perform any physical activity I am out of breath.

I ask myself the same two questions every day. Why am I putting myself through this and how long will my body allow it before it says it can’t go on? As a child and well into my adult life I was an athlete. I played basketball, soccer and softball on recreation teams well into my forties. Then I was sidelined with a back injury that changed my life. I was told I could never jog or run again because my spine could not take the constant pressure applied while running. That is when I started to gain weight.

I have tried several diets and it really is true that until you are ready to change your eating habits no one can make you do it. So here I am at sixty years of age and beginning again. I am following a diet that requires little thought because it contains a well structured eating regimen. Following the diet is easy because I don’t have to count points or weigh my food. I have been on the diet for less than a week and have lost 5 pounds.

It is my hope that this article will inspire at least one person to make the decision to change their life. I know it’s time for me to make the change and I am looking forward to being healthier and more active then I have been in several years.
