What Characters Should “The Simpsons” Kill Off in Their Final Season?

Now that it’s been officially announced “The Simpsons” has two more TV seasons left, there’s only so much first run time left in the near quarter century old animated sitcom. Naturally, questions arise on just how they’ll go out with a bang. If Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Maggie call it quits for good, here’s a few characters the Fox folks may consider getting rid of permanently.

Principal Skinner’s Mom Agnes Skinner (Tress MacNeille)

Seymour Skinner (Armin Tamzarian) or ‘Spanky’ to his Mom, has been haunted (tortured) by his raging Mom all his adult life. It’s quite fitting the Simpson’s writers arrange it so the old gal can haunt him properly in death.

As Bart Simpson’s principal, Skinner takes guff from students, but none gives it better than his dear old Mom. Would Skinner actually off his Mom himself? That’s a bit extreme – even for ‘The Simpsons’ – but perhaps a ‘believable accident’ could be arranged. Maybe it’s a job for a pro like Fat Tony?

The Comic Book Guy (Hank Azaria)

Comic book fan boys and girls alike look admiringly to this overly rotund character as themselves in surrogate form on “The Simpsons”. If he was to kick the bucket, they’d be mourning in geek land to be sure, but it’d be a chance to explore the supernatural genre. Like SyFy’s “Ghost Hunters”, the deceased owner of The Android’s Dungeon could explore the other side up close and personal, perhaps reporting by ‘dead cam’ – sending Bart and Millhouse juicy video tidbits from the hereafter.

Otto Mann (Harry Shearer)

Otto drives the bus like a crazy man with a death wish, so perhaps it’s finally time to give him what he wants. “Yeah, Man!” He may be an oafish, aging hippy, but Otto could make a real splash for fans – not to mention ratings gold – by keeling over and driving his school bus off into the sunset for the final time.

Selma & Patty Bouvier (Julie Kavner)

These twins are a joy to watch – at least from a far. Marge Simpson loves her sisters dearly, but judging from their treatment of her, we all wonder – Why!? Sister Patty came out as a lesbian, and it rattled Marge, but she finally accepted her sister’s new lifestyle. But of course, these two come as a two for one deal, so if one goes, the other follows.

Police Chief Wiggum (Hank Azaria)

Many argue the woefully obese head cop of Springfield is way too fat to patrol the town. It’d be so easy to kill off Wiggum by cardiac arrest, or by him eating a poison doughnut, but perhaps something unexpected could send Wiggum off to the great doughnut shop in the cloud.

Maybe the chief does such skillful police work – detective work Sherlock Holmes could be proud of, or at least Columbo – the whodunit murders the lardy lad. Mayor Quimby getting a last laugh? Maybe Marge can reactivate her police officer status to solve the case!
