Visit the Underground Caverns in Blanchard Springs, Arkansas

Blanchard Springs Caverns , located near Mountain View, Arkansas, is an experience for spelunkers and just curious visitors. Guided tours are available for the three underground passageways. In the visitor center, a movie explaining the caverns is shown.

There are several tours available. The Dripstone Trail, the smallest tour, is about an hour long. The half mile tour is ideal for those who want a short look at the various cave formations. The guide is well versed in the formations, and is able to answer most questions.

The Discovery Tour is longer in length. It has many steps, so if there is a mobility issue, this tour should be avoided. This trail follows the cave streams, and many interesting creatures that live in the dark confines of the cave are seen.

The most strenuous tour is the 2 mile Wild Cave tour. It takes four hours to complete this tour. It explores the undeveloped reaches of the underground system. For this tour, cave gear is provided. It is a treat for amateur spelunkers.

The caverns are close to the Ozark Folk Center, which features the crafts, music, and oral history of the mountain folk. Local artisans demonstrate their skills in a family type setting. Mountain View is the closest town to the Folk Center and the Caverns. This small town is proud of its country roots and puts on quite a show for visitors. In the town square, there are lively concerts that entertain both visitors and residents. There are many small shops that feature the crafts of the mountain folk.

There are several motels in the area, including a Best Western. There are cabins located at Dry Creek, in Mountain View. The Blanchard Springs Recreation area offers 32 recreational vehicle and tent spots. There are no hook ups available at the camp.
