Urban Outfitters Commissions Music Video from Band Touted by Rolling Stone Magazine

I recently met with Producer/Director John Ryan Jennings after learning that the International clothing store, Urban Outfitters commissioned a music video to be made by the band, Cloud Nothings off its wildly sucessful South by Southwest Music Festival appearance. Cloud Nothings is a Cleveland band, that just completed recording an album with producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, The Pixies, Etc.) In the yet-be-be-released issue of Rolling Stone, they also are being called “The band to watch.” The video will be for the track “No Future/No Past.” Ryan advised that the video will be like nothing else ever done and that they have found their talent to be the face of the video, the famous character actor Mike Gassaway http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1096816/ . Gassaway has appeared in many Television series such as Friday Night Lights, Chase, My Generation, The River and The Lying Game as well as Movies such as “W”, Bad Kids Go To Hell, Epic, Temple Grandin and Out of the Darkness. “His acting skills will be put to the test to pull off the images we envision, but if anyone can do it, he can” stated Jennings.

Back in January, the band’s front man Dylan Baldi put out a debut disc of bright and cute lo-fi pop-punk. On this first taste of his second LP, he fronts a full band, gets in a studio with aural verite production grandee Steve Albini and starts thinking dark and alluringly ugly. Baldi draws out his vowels like Thom Yorke and yowls like Kurt Cobain, purging what sounds like a pretty scary case of the post-breakup blues over brutally molten guitar ooze. “Give up / We’re through,” he bellows. Whoever he’s through with might want to call in a restraining order, just for good measure. The whole vibe reminds me of a blend of Radiohead and Nirvana……I Love it I love it.

A modern day Nirvana indeed….and well worth a look.
