‘True Blood,’ Season 4, Episode 11, ‘Soul of Fire’

In “True Blood,” Season 4, Episode 11, “Soul of Fire,” the body count starts to rise as the vampires besiege the Goddess Emporium. In quick order, one of the captive and ensorcelled vampire sheriffs and then a Wiccan die.

Spoilers surely follow.

Sookie uses her powers to stop Marnie/Antonia from causing Bill and Eric to commit suicide. Pam uses a rocket launcher on the warding because she is just mad and frustrated. Marnie/Antonia, who murdered one of her wiccan followers, soon lives to regret it, as it gives Angel and Lafayette the opportunity to create a spell that casts Antonia out of Marnie’s body. This happens just as Marnie/Antonia is about to use her sorcery to force the vampires into the warding. But then the warding goes down, the vampires enter the emporium, and Bill ventilates Marnie.

Along the way, Jessica saves Jason, who was barbequed in the backlash of the rocket hitting the warding, once again. They seem to have come to an understanding about their relationship, thankfully.

In the meantime Sheriff Andy, walking home after Terry’s intervention, seems to run into a denizen from the fairy world. Was it the withdrawal of the V that made him imagine having hot sex with the winsome nymph, or is there now hope for every pudgy, balding, bad-tempered addict? No doubt this will be revealed, along with what such nocturnal encounters cost.

Alcide and Sam catch Marcus with Debbie. Even though Debbie swears that “nothing happened,” Alcide gives Debbie a werewolf divorce. Sam gives Marcus a beating and then, because the silly wolf won’t leave well enough alone, gives him the coup de grace. This is not going to make the Shreveport pack happy, unless Alcide takes the opportunity to become alpha wolf.

All of these developments would seem to wrap up the story line of the season rather neatly, especially the witch on vampire war. However there is one episode left and, in Bon Temps, death can just be an inconvenient state of being rather than the end of all tears.

This is what Lafayette finds out as, while laying down with his handsome young lover, Marnie shows up and takes possession of his body. One suspects that the mayhem has not even begun.
