Tips to Help You Fall Asleep Faster and Stay Asleep

After a long day at work, one of best things to look forward that night is to fall into that soft bed and in turn fall asleep. Sometimes, unfortunately, the task of falling asleep and even staying asleep can be difficult, no matter how tired or sleepy you are. Here are some helpful tips to make sure you have an easier time of getting some shut-eye after you hit the pillow and continue to catch Z’s all night long.

Make Your Bedroom a Place Favorable to Sleep.

One great way to help train your mind (and in turn, your body) to feel sleepy before going to bed is to make sure you make your bedroom have a relaxing, calm atmosphere. Create a restful bedroom for yourself by closing the windows, keeping the fan on faintly, and setting all electronic devices (including phones and beepers) off. By keeping your bedroom a stress-free environment with a primary purpose for sleeping, your body will soon begin preparing itself to sleep without being distracted by lights or noise.

Take a Warm Bath or Shower Before You Go to Bed.

Don’t forget how relaxing and soothing it was to take a warm bath when you were a child. Though as we get older and tend to take the quicker and faster showers, sometimes a warm bath is just what your body needs to ease your muscles and make you feel tired. The warm water from the bath or shower will help you rest comfortably and get ready to fall asleep faster throughout the night.

Make the Time Before You Go to Sleep Consistent.

Lastly, you can not only fall asleep faster but stay asleep by training yourself over time to have an organized schedule before heading to bed. With a consistent, nightly schedule that may include having a warm glass of milk, brushing your teeth, and reading a bit of a favorite book, you will have a comfortable routine set up over time. The body will begin relaxing itself the moment you start the nightly routine, and will help promote you to stay in that restful sleep state throughout the night.

If you follow these simple but helpful tips to stay asleep and keep asleep, you might just find that getting a good night’s rest isn’t as hard as it seems. Sleep is when your body recovers itself and grows, so don’t forget to give yourself at least 7 hours a night. Remember, before trying to start a new sleep schedule or take any sleeping related pills, consult your doctor or a licensed health professional.
