Tips for Cutting Hot Peppers Without the Burn

For some people cutting into a hot pepper is no big deal since they are not affected by the heat that can debilitate other people who are sensitive. My son is one of those people who can cut into a hot pepper and nothing happens to him. I on the other hand can’t even be in the same room where a hot pepper is being cut into. So I look for ways of cutting into hot peppers that will not make me cry or or cause me to run from the room with my eyes, nose and throat on fire.

You can put the hot pepper into a plastic baggy and cut it inside the bag. You need to be careful that the pepper, your hands and knife stay in the bag as you are cutting into it. You may also want to let the cut up pepper stay in the bag for awhile so the fumes calm down before you take it out. If you cut a pepper this way make sure you wash your hands and the knife you have used to cut with well.

Frozen peppers don’t seem to be as toxic when you cut into them so if you freeze your peppers before you cut them you will not have such a strong hot pepper problem. You still need to be very careful as you are cutting your hot peppers.

My favorite way to cut hot peppers is to fill up a large deep bowl with some water and place the pepper into the water so it is completely covered and stays covered with water as you are cutting it. By cutting your hot pepper under water the fumes will get trapped in the water and you will not be affected by them. After you have cut up the hot pepper you can catch the pieces in the water and use them in your favorite dishes. Make sure you dispose of the water and wash your hands, knife and the bowl you have been using or you could get the pepper burn on you when you least expect it.

For those of you who are not affected by hot pepper fumes I know you think this is silly but for those of you who are easily affected by the heat of the hot pepper I am sure you understand.
