Tiger Woods Upset by Haney’s Book: A Fan’s Reaction

Tiger Woods is heading abroad to play the European circuit for a while. He will be entering the Abu Dhabi Tournament before coming back for Pebble Beach.

He is probably trying to escape the American media and hoping they will forget him–fat chance. In a recent interview with ESPN, Woods was asked what he thought about Haney’s book coming out just before the Masters.

Tiger did not seem too pleased that Haney had written the book and said he would not be reading it. All the bad publicity since 2009 has Woods a little testy. During the interview, Woods said Haney was being unprofessional by releasing the book prior to the Masters, but it is not clear if Tiger is upset about the timing or the book in general.

The fans in Tiger’s corner will undoubtedly side with the iconic golfer. Others say they do not have any sympathy for Woods and he will just have to play through it. From a business point of view, it makes good sense to release the book prior to the Masters. It was two years ago just after the tournament that the dynamic duo separated. By releasing it when he is, Haney is getting a lot of direct media attention. It is a smart move to let the press save you marketing fees by letting them promoting your product.

One thing is for sure, Tiger has been in the spotlight the past couple years, not only for his personal difficulties but the professional ones as well. First, he had the Haney split, then the caddy split, and now the Haney book. It makes one wonder if a caddy book is soon to follow.

Before his vehicle kissed the fire hydrant in 2009, Tiger Woods has been a perfectionist on the green. Ever since that fateful night, it seems he lost his touch. Without a doubt, it has to be difficult to play when the press is breathing down your neck, but the truth is he only has himself to blame.

I am not a big Tiger fan, but somehow I rather feel sorry for the person. In all fairness, I hope he can play the Masters without the media probing him about the book. It would great to see if he still has the potential to put on the green jacket.

It all comes down to what Tiger used to say: “It is what it is.”

Golf is the major summer-time sport here in Northeast Harbor. I’ve played each year here for the past decade. When I lived in Georgia I had the opportunity to be a spectator at two of the Augusta championships.
