Three of Phoenix, Arizona’s Best Breweries

As an avid consumer, the process of brewing has become increasingly interesting to me, as well as my interest in finding Phoenix top local breweries where one can depend on beer options with quality products that are superior and diverse in taste.

Papago Brewing

Papago Brewing has an extensive 30 taps that change daily and was rated “Best Brewery” in 2010 by AZCENTRAL’s Critics’ Pick. The bar showcases the Southwest right by serving fine micro-brews as well as your classic beers from all over the world. They live and breathe their slogan “Making Thirsty Worthwhile” with popular beers like “Hop Father” and the ultimate bar food menu stocked with options. Be sure to chat with your server or bartender, as they are all extremely knowledgeable about their products and will steer you towards what you’d like based on your taste buds. I’d recommend planning on dining while you sample some beer, as the alcohol content on these goodies have some serious kick!

Four Peaks Brewery

Four Peaks Brewery in Tempe has a very nostalgic and authentic appeal. The building, originally constructed in 1892, is nestled in Tempe’s well-known Arizona State University college town, and attracts students, sports fans and professionals alike. The building has maintained its charm with its red brick and wooden ceilings, and although there have been several additions, has remained mostly unchanged.

Beyond the fabulous atmosphere, Four Peaks Brewery knows how to serve up a cold brew! Several of their signature beers have not only won awards, they’ve gained international notoriety. Upon visiting, be sure to try my absolute favorite, “Sunbru” beer. This beer is mildy sweet, with a bread-like, flavor.

Whatever beer, seasonal or not, that you choose when you cruise through Four Peaks, be sure to ask for a recommendation for a food pairing- the menu is elaborate for a brewery, and everything on it is equally delicious.

Sleepy Dog Saloon & Brewery

The Sleepy Dog Saloon & Brewery is a comfortable, unpretentious, and unusually intriguing gem I found during my research experience. The saloon is located in a strip mall and is a production brewery that produces magnificent beer, in a fun and crisp atmosphere. They do not have a kitchen so they serve up complimentary popcorn, simple dips and veggie creations, while allowing you to bring in your own munchies, take-out, or order from a local mobile food truck. The entertainment consists of board games, cards, and classic flicks like “Princess Bride.” I would suggest that beginners here take advantage of the 8 Beer Sampler, which allows you to sip the tasty brews, which are given names like “St. Bernard” and “Wet Snout Milk Stout.”
