Thoughts on Week 2 Action from the National Football League

These are my thoughts that I put down as they ramble through my mind. I’m going to give you my thoughts, I will take some pot shots, and I might give you an anecdote or two. This is what I observed from my couch while checking fantasy scores.

1. Darren McFadden will one day lead the league in rushing.
2. Was going to say something about Cam Newton and Kordell Stewart, but all I can seem to think about is 432 yards. Kordell would know nothing about numbers like that.
3. There is no way that David Garrard was as bad as Luke McCown. It’s just not possible.
4. Donovan McNabb looked better. Not SuperBowl pukey McNabb, not 39 yard McNabb either. Somewhere in the middle.
5. With 1:50 left in the 1st Q of the Jets game, Shonn Greene awakens from his coma. Shortly after scoring a TD, he was pulled back into the abyss. We will update you with details if he’s heard from again.
6. West coast teams traveling east to play in the morining can’t adjust their body clocks.
7. Hue Jackson made the Raiders practice at 10 am all week, they didn’t appear sluggish at all, and scored 35 points. I think he might be on to something there.
8. Just watching that game, if you didn’t know who the players were, you might think you were seeing a version of the KGun offense.
9. I like the way rookie head coach Hue Jackson taking control of the Raiders this season. Staying agressive and adding some diversity to the playbook. Same can be said for his cross bay rival Jim Harbaugh, minus the diversity. That will come if Alex Smith can prove himself competent.
10. The Pats/Chargers game was officially over at the end of the 1st half after Wilforks INT, they rolled out the red carpet for King Tom to stroll down the field and into comfortable FG position. The kick was good, and the shoulders slumped on the SD sidelines. Game Over.
11. Shut down Gates, shut down Chargers. It sounds easy enough, but rarely been done.
12. Phillip Rivers looks as good as ever. At least for this week, Vincent Jackson appears to be a new man. No celebrations, no gyrations, no look at me. Just an old school, hand it to the ref touchdown.
13. Bill Belicheck came into question last week for his defense. Put the crown back on, you are still the king of defensive schemes, and defense in general. The Ryan boys will have to wait their turn.
14. The Reggie Bush as lead back experiment last all of 1 game. Sean Payton knows what he’s talking about doesn’t he.
15. Ryan Matthews was running really hard today. How long before he gets the lions share of the carries down there? Not too long if you’re asking me.
16. Ben Tate had another big day. Did you see Arian’s facial expression on the sidelines? Let’s just say he didn’t seem to be very happy about winning the game, and enjoying a beautiful day in Miami. He wanted to knock somebody’s block off. My guess is Kubiak.
17. I am sick and tired of all the praise and adulation that Tom Brady gets. It’s heaped upon him ad naseum, and it’s monotonous and boring. He deserves every bit of it.
18. Get used to hearing “Dalton to Green….Touchdown Bengals”. Sounds a little better than Anderson to Collinsworth doesn’t it?
19. Romo leads team back from 4th Q defecit and forces OT. Hits a big pass play to secure the win against the 49ers on the road no less. He will never get rid of the choke artist label, even after a game like today where he came back from an injury as well. He has to win it all, or it will always be like this.
20. In what seemed like a day of comebacks, there was yet another one in the Sunday night game. Matt Ryan displayed his mettle and brought his team back for a win. The bigger story here is the health of Michael Vick, who had to leave the game in the 2nd half in his return to Atlanta. Philly bogged down and could do nothing once he left the game. That’s something to chew on until next Sunday.
