The Christmas Snoop

Sarah is the little Christmas snoop, so everyone keeps her out of the loop. She never shops, cooks, cleans, or wraps, because her mother always makes her take a nap. She pretends to weep and fall asleep, and then slips out of bed to take a quick peek.

She finds nothing in the drawers or under the beds, not even in the closets up over her head. She wonders where mom hides the stuff that she bought, as she slips back into bed before she is caught. Try as she may, try as she might, she then falls asleep the cute little tyke.

She awakes to a house filled with family and friends, one or the other going out and coming in.

Christmas Eve dinner is always grand and divine; we talk about decorations, gifts, and even father time. Then when the last guest wanders out into the winter’s gloom, Sarah is once again sent up to her room.

The living room fire roars, gifts litter the floor, and Sarah’s father stands guard at her bedroom door. Soon the turkey is brining, gifts wrapped, stockings hung; Santa’s cookies and milk set out just for fun. Mom, dad, and siblings are finally done; they all head to bed at quarter past one.

The house is all-quiet, there is nary a sound, it’s completely lit up from the roof to the ground. No way could Santa miss it when he comes round, no matter what hour he flies into town.

As Sarah lay in her bed, sleigh bells ringing in her head, she decides it is time to meet the man in red. “I know what I’ll say when he passes my way. I’ll ask him where he’s been today, what part of the earth he’s travelled to first, and if he’s remembered to bring my little red purse.”

She wonders indeed if he will be pleased, when she catches him shoving gifts under the tree. Will he scold her and send her off to bed, or will she get to meet red-nosed Rudolph instead? She rolls her eyes back up in her head, and taps her little finger on the side of her bed, then she pats her little bow tie lips twice, and says, “What if he thinks I’m naughty, not nice?” This thought puts her snooping plans on ice. She then turns in her bed, covers her head, and dreams about jolly old Saint Nick instead.
