“The Biggest Loser” Crowns a New Champion

Seven months ago, 15 unhealthy people walked across a desert to get on “The Biggest Loser” ranch, hoping to change their lives, get healthy and lose weight. Though the incentive of a monetary prize drew them to this journey, they gained something better.

They all gained the ability to be present in their families’ lives and even complete simple tasks like standing and walking. Some even motivated family members to take control of their lives. Many came to the ranch with life-threatening diseases but left with reduced health risks. In the end, John, Antone and Ramon sweated their way into the finale and together lost more than 500 pounds.

The finale of “The Biggest Loser” opened with a performance by Train, who wrote the new theme song for this season. The finale showed footage of the 15 contestants when they first came to the ranch. The contestant lost more than 1,500 pounds and proved that you can lose weight at any age. The trainers came out before the contestants had their last “Biggest Loser” weigh-in. Alison revealed the weight of the eliminated players first, all weighed in before the show started.

Broken into three groups of four, the person with the highest percentage of weight loss weighed in on live television, and whoever had the highest percentage of weight loss won the at-home prize of $100,000. Vinnie, Patrick and Jennifer had the highest percentages of weight loss in their respective groups.

Patrick lost 151 pounds, 39.02 percent. Jennifer and Vinnie weighed in last, and Jennifer won the $100,000 by less than 1 percent. Vinnie had a percentage of 43.19; Jennifer had a percentage of 43.94. She said she thought of Bob every time she wanted to give up.

The finalists came out next. Ramon then stepped out first, revealing his new body and new attitude. His example rubbed off on his family. His father lost more than 85 lbs., and his mother headed to the “Biggest Loser” Ranch to begin her journey. Former NFL player Antone looked like a totally different person and smiled, unlike his first week on the ranch. John, who really wanted to be the next “Biggest Loser,” looked like a different person.

Dr. Huizenga gave a medical prognosis to the finalists. They all shrunk their fatty livers and had the lowest percentage of body fat of any “Biggest Loser” finalists. Ramon and John got rid of their diabetes, and it should stay away as long as they maintain healthy lifestyles.

Though they all had impressive weight loss percentage numbers, John won the quarter of a million. He saw the shower of confetti fall over him. Now, the real work begins — keeping the momentum going at home. At home, he won’t have the isolation or trainers yelling at him. Hopefully, he will continue to set goals and maintain.

Now that the present season is over, the next season begins in three weeks on January 3, 2012, just in time to motivate viewers in the new year. “The Biggest Loser: No Excuses” plans to add twists and turns as family members come to the ranch to shrink their waistlines and start new, healthy lives.
