The 89th Acadamy Awards Live: Clooney on the Carpet

The Red Carpet at the Oscars is normally a fairly superficial showing of beauty and glamour. Everyone has a great time and it’s like a who’s who for both the movie and fashion industries. However, on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2012, George Clooney tried to bring the philosophical to the Red Carpet.

Being interviewed for E!, Clooney quipped that he was “carrying Armani” on his back. The interviewer was also obviously interested in finding out about the statuesque blonde draped on Clooney’s well-dressed arm. George, however, was determined to bring a piece of a serious conversation to the Oscars.

Clooney spoke about how he doesn’t regret his life or want to carry any regrets with him. He was not morbid, but he spoke about how – for him – he can prepare for death. It is important that we live every day to the fullest. Clooney made it clear that he was worried about regretting not the things he had done, but the things that he hadn’t. He wants to accomplish all that he can so that he’s not left wishing that he had done more.

In a short Red Carpet interview, there wasn’t time to fully go into this type of conversation, but it was clear that Clooney has big plans for his life – both professionally and privately. There are many movies yet to be made by this Hollywood superstar.

His sentiments are definitely something that many people can identify with. Many of us are left at the end of the day not worried about anything that we have done, but stressed out by all of the things that we didn’t accomplish. Many of us are stressed trying to balance numerous demands on our time and energy, and are worried that we won’t live up to our potential. It was reassuring to see that a Hollywood A-lister can identify with this feeling.

George Clooney is nominated for Best Leading Actor for his role in The Descendants.
