Squirrel Island, Maine

We traveled along mid-coast Maine,
To Boothbay Harbor we eventually came.
We parked the car to see some more,
And then we took a walking tour.

We walked along the harbor side,
And watched all the lobster boats glide.
Off to sea they quickly sped,
To bring back lobsters from their bed.

A postal/delivery boat was at the quey,
And waiting there for you and me,
We jumped on board holding the rail,
And watched them load the supplies and mail.

I never thought about island living,
It’s kinda rough and not forgiving.
You must load everything from the store,
On this supply boat and then lug some more.

The supply boat pulled away,
It really was a lovely day.
We passed some islands large and small,
Light houses were on some of them looming tall.

We reached Squirrel Island and saw supplies,
Unloaded right before our eyes.
No cars are allowed – that is the rule,
A wagon is a necessary tool.

The ride back was so nice,
And if you’re in Maine, this is my advice.
Take this little boat for a ride,
A nice time this tour will provide.
