Spongebob Sqaurepants is Not Inappropriate

I use to think that Spongebob Squarepants was an inappropriate TV show. But you can never be completely sure of something until you extensively research it. I am so glad that I decided to research the myth that Spongebob Squarepants is inappropriate. I learned so much from this experience and an important lesson was to never judge a book by it’s cover. Here is the research I found to prove that Spongebob is safe for your children to watch.

Rumor 1: The town name “Bikini Bottom” is an inappropriate reference.

It is not an inappropriate reference whatsoever. I really wish that the creators of Spongebob would clear this up. It would probably result in them receiving more views. Here is the proof, this town in Spongebob called “Bikini Bottom” comes from a real set of islands called Bikini Atoll. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bikini_Atoll

There are 23 islands that surround a deep center lagoon. This lagoon is “Goo Lagoon” in Spongebob. The creator of Spongebob was a Marine Biologist and was really in to his work at Bikini Atoll. Yeah, at first the name Bikini Bottom might look inappropriate for your children. But doesn’t this clear up so much? You might have never learned this.

Rumor 2: Mrs. Puff’s name is a reference to drugs.

I read an article that stated Mrs. Puff was a reference to drugs. They thought that Puff was referring to Smoking. Well, it is not. A quick google search shows that Mrs. Puff is a Puffer Fish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetraodontidae that is where the name comes from.

People should not be so quick to judge a name. This is now two instances where a name could be classified as inappropriate, when really it isn’t.

Rumor 3: Mr. Krabs is referring to an STD or a STI.

The STD that his name could even closely be referring to would be “Crabs” which is spelt with a C, not a K. There is a disease called Krabbes but it is a degenerative disorder. http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition=krabbedisease

Spongebob doesn’t look as inappropriate as it used to right?

Rumor 4: The character Sandy Cheeks is referring to a Sandy Gluteal Muscles.

This is the only debatable one I have found. Yeah it could be referring to something inappropriate. But when I think of it, maybe it isn’t. Sandy is a Squirrel who lives in the ocean. Normally Squirrels don’t live near sand or salt water, it could just be referring to the fact that Sandy is a Squirrel who is Sandy, because she lives underwater. Not to be biased, but I think my reason makes a little more sense.

So those are the four major reasons I could think people may find Spongebob as an inappropriate show. Isn’t it nice to finally realize that it isn’t? For so many years, I thought that it was. Once I learned all this information it makes me want to watch Spongebob and forget about all the crazy rumors. Please pass this on to your friends I would love for more people to learn that Spongebob isn’t as inappropriate as it looks.
