People who craft are some of the luckiest people in the world. They go about their daily business but, if they see something they like, they can just go home and make it. Sure, there are some things that a crafter can’t create because it would require specific, expensive equipment, but, for the most part, a crafter just makes what she wants. With that in mind, let’s make some unique shell bowls.
There are various types of nut shells you can use to make a bowl. Pistachios are just one choice. You can also use small seashells. Wash and dry whatever type of shells you’ll be using. It’s important that they be dry.
Select a bowl from your cupboard to use as the mold for the new bowl. Tear a large piece of cellophane or cling wrap and lay it on the bowl. Push it into the bowl making sure that the insides of the bowl are completely covered.
Use a disposable bowl to mix the glue with the shells. Start by putting a handful of the shells into the bowl and putting some glue in with them. Mix the shells around in the glue, pack them together in your hand, then press them into the bottom of the bowl. Do this again and again, packing the shells into the bottom and around the insides, until the bowl takes shape.
Allow the shells and glue to dry throughout the night. When the glue has dried, turn the new bowl out, and remove the plastic wrap from the original bowl. Examine the new bowl and check to see if there are any loose spots. If there are, apply more glue – and/or shells – as needed.
A shell bowl doesn’t absolutely have to be round. Look at things you have in your cupboard, like a square cake pan, to make other bowls. Things that can be used as molds include coffee cups, juice glasses, votive holders, or even other baskets.
The shell bowl is a unique creation that can hold soaps, craft supplies, assorted packets, hair accessories, jewelry, and much more. Use it in a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, or anywhere in the house. Make an assortment of them to create a set or just make one and use it as a centerpiece on a table. The shell bowl is stunning as it is but can also be painted to suit the look of a particular room. Everyone who sees it will comment on it.
