Review of the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn-Part 1

I toggled back and forth, between whether I wanted to go see Breaking Dawn or not. I have seen all three previous movies and I enjoyed them. I am a huge fan of anything vampire so this saga was right up my alley although it was geared toward a younger crowd.

I was always team Jacob, so I was not sure whether I wanted to see Bella and Edward’s wedding and vampire spawn in this movie or not. At first, I was not going to go, but some high school friends of mine re-assured me that they had taken their adult selves to see it and it was good.

Overall, I thought the plot was rather redundant. It was the usual Bella loves Edward; Jacob rips his shirt off and howls in the woods, blah blah blah plot. The wedding scene was not very spectacular. I half expected Edward to fly around in a circle and sprinkle rose petals on Bella’s head or something amazing. Actually, the wedding was rather boring and the exchange of vows was equally yawn worthy. The honeymoon scene was rated G rather than PG-13 and left much confusion as to what Bella and Edward actually did other than destroy the bedroom.

The focus of the movie seemed to be on the painful pregnancy that Bella had to endure. She miraculously fell pregnant and the vampire spawn sucked the life out of her for the entire month or two pregnancy. I felt the pregnancy and the birth were both very grotesque. If the writer intended for teenage girls to be frightened out of vampire sex and teen pregnancy, this movie will absolutely accomplish such.

The best part of the movie was the last twenty minutes, which I had to painstakingly wait for almost two hours. Jacob finally gets a life, though the way he goes about doing such might become a controversial subject. Bella gets a new look, but unfortunately viewers will not get to see it much until the next installment.

I did not hate the movie, but after watching, I was disappointed in myself for spending the money to see it. It just did not provide me with the thrill the other movies provided me with. I knew exactly what was going to happen and was not surprised in the least with any occurrences. The movie will be good for the teen viewers and a few hopeless romantics who cherish the Edward and Bella relationship. Other viewers will be neither thrilled nor enraged. Personally, I thought Breaking Dawn was the worst Twilight movie yet. Hopefully, part two of Breaking Dawn will deliver the pizzazz that the first three installments had. I give it two stars out of five. I give one star for Jacob’s shirt and another star for the miraculous pregnancy.
