Review of Red Maple in Baltimore, MD

For my Uncle’s birthday, he requested to go Salsa dancing. The Red Maple Lounge at 930 North Charles Street, in Baltimore hosts a free beginner Salsa lesson workshop for individuals interested in the dance. So I put on my dancing shoes and expected to dance the night away.

The Georgia Boy Dance Studios begins the Salsa lesson promptly at 9pm. For a half hour, couples learn beginner salsa steps and by the end of the class they are able to make their way through the dance floor using basic salsa moves. I arrived midway into the session as I am already a salsa dancer and the moves that were shown seemed to be very easy learn. The dance floor was filled with enthusiastic learners followed Cedric, the instructor, through all the moves. Once the instructional period was complete, the floor was open for everyone to practice his or her new moves. It appeared that the class was easy follow and everyone was in unison with the count and music. The disc jockey mixed an arrangement of Meringue, Salsa, and Euro Dance music, which added to a pleasurable evening. I was pleasantly surprised that I never found myself yawning due to bad music selection or just a boring time. I requested two selections that the DJ played for me within a reasonable time. With great instruction and music, Georgia Boy Dance Studios receives two thumbs up.

Since, the kitchen closed shortly after we would arrive the group ordered several appetizers just as a light fare. I am not much of a food critic but what I can say is that the presentation was awesome and the flavors were out of this world. In addition the appetizers, we had sangria for drinks which also was a light drink choice for the night. The décor was typical of a lounge/night club with a very unique setup. There was so much participation that sometimes I found myself stepping on others toes but a simple apology went very far. The beautiful faces and diverse crowd added to my enjoyment as people watching is a good pastime while in nightclubs.

The Red Maple and the Georgia Boy Dance creates a special night for Salsa beginners. With various lessons throughout the week for talara, bachata, and hip hop, everyone is sure to find something that they will enjoy throughout the week. Not necessarily a fan of nightclubs for romantic dates but taking someone special to learn to dance may just be an experience that both of you will remember. Take the time to pick up their weekly schedule and start learning things that take you out of your comfort zone.
