Recycled Craft Ideas for Young Children

Young children love to make things. Being crafty and creative is just part of being a child. It can be difficult for parents, however, to come up with unique, fun and interesting crafts for their youngsters to complete. Even further, it can get expensive constantly buying craft supplies! Here are some great craft ideas for young children using recycled materials. With these crafts, your child will be able to express their creativity in a “green” way by reusing things that may have otherwise just been thrown in the trash!

Baby food jar animals
Baby food jars are great for storing small items, or even bulk spices, but they can be used in some pretty neat crafts too! With a hot glue gun, pompoms, paint, and a few other notions, you can convert your old washed out baby food jars into some cute looking animal friends!

Plastic bottle penguins
My oldest daughter absolutely adores penguins.Presenting her with a penguin themed craft just made her day. Using old water bottles, soda bottles, socks and scrap fabric, you can help your child create their own little family of penguins!

Flip-flop stamp art
Flip-flops are cheap during the summer, but they don’t have much life in them. Once you’ve worn your flip-flops to the mac, you can cut the foam sole into different shapes and use them with paint to create stamp art! This is a great, earth-friendly addition to any art box and craft kit!

Bowling set
Crafts of any kinds are great, especially if they were made from recycled materials. One kind of craft project that’s even better, is one that has a practical (and continual) use later! We all have countless pens, crayons, markers and pencils lying around our houses. Using some glue sticks, safety scissors and old magazines, you can help your child create a unique and colorful pen cup to keep all of your family’s pens, pencils, markers and crayons stored in!

Plastic egg pull-toy
Every Easter, we end up with countless plastic Easter eggs. We try to save some for next year’s festivities, however, sometimes you end up with odd pieces that don’t seem to match up with any others. With a little preparation, you can let your child create a plastic egg pull toy by threading plastic egg shells together! Of course, mom and dad will need to drill the holes ahead of time, and help with securing the ends!
