Recycled Blue Jean Crafts – Easy to Crochet Denim Curtain Pattern

Add a touch of denim to any room with these simple to crochet denim curtains. The curtains are made with strips of cut or torn blue jeans. The frayed edges of the strips add texture to the curtains. Crochet a denim curtain for windows, closets, doors or room separators.

Cut or rip the blue jeans into 1-inch strips. Connect the strips together by folding the 1-inch end of the strip up 1-inch. Cut a ½-inch slit in the center of the fold parallel with the long edge of the strip. Repeat this process on all strip ends. Insert the end of one strip through the slit on another. Pull the inserted strip through the slit approximately 4 -inches. Take the opposite end of the inserted strip and place it through the slit in the 4-inch section. Pull the strip through the slit. Pull the strip until it creates a knot around the first strip. Repeat the process with all strips. Wind the strips into a ball for easy handling while crocheting.

Things You’ll Need:

Tape measure
1-inch blue Jean strips
Size Q/16mm crochet hook
Scissors

Instructions:

Step 1 – Measure the width and height of the curtain opening. Multiply the width by 3. For example, a window is 45-inches wide. Multiply 45 times 3 for a total of 135. Round the answer up to an even number – 135 becomes 136.

Step 2 – Divide the answer by 2 to create two curtain panels for the area. In the example 136 divided by 2 is 68.

Step 3 – Add 1 to the answer derived in Step 2. In the example 68 plus 1 is 69. This is the number of chain stitches required to make each curtain panel. The additional 1 creates the first stitch in the row.

The remainder of the instructions use the example stated above. Change the amount of chain stitches to adapt for any width curtain.

Row 1 – Chain 69 stitches. Turn. Single crochet in the second chain from the end and in each stitch across for a total of 68 stitches.

Row 2 – 10 – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in each stitch across for a total of 69 stitches.

Row 11 – Match the two edges long edges. Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in each stitch across through both layers of stitching for a total of 69 stitches. This creates the curtain rod casing.

Row 12 – ? – Chain 1 stitch. Single crochet in each stitch across for a total of 69 stitches. Repeat this row until the curtain is the desired length.

Change the color of the curtain by using colored denim. Create curtains from any fabric using the same instructions.
