Recap: ‘True Blood,’ Season 4, Episode 10, ‘Burning Down the House’

“True Blood,” Season 4, Episode 10, “Burning Down the House” begins with the mayhem that Marnie/Antonia turns the “Festival of Tolerance” into with her evil sorcery, causing people to attack one another with wild abandon. Oddly, Sookie is unaffected, except for being really angered and frightened. She finally calls upon her fairy power to stop Eric from killing Bill.

Spoilers follow.

Marnie/Antonia, seeing her sorcery thwarted, vanishes with her minions and captive vampire sheriffs. Eric finds that his memories are restored. However, he has still been made a better man for his love for Sookie.

Tommy, at long last, pays the ultimate price for his idiocy while Alcide and Sam look on helplessly. Sam vows vengeance on Marcus and it looks like Alcide is going to help. Unknown to Alcide, he may have a personal reason for throwing in with Sam.

Terry stages an intervention for his cousin, Sheriff Andy, who is silly with V addiction. This involves a tree house, a firearms competition, and the working out of issues that date back to infancy. Terry is well-trained for this kind of work, having been very messed up from his tour in Iraq. (As an aside, why does Hollywood always depict military veterans as being drug addicts or having violence issues?)

Jason is thoroughly messed up by his tryst with Jessica, not wanting to buy his happiness at the expense of his friend Hoyt. He wants to have the whole thing glamored away from him. This in turn torques Jessica, who now really wants to eat and kill someone. She may get her wish.

Later, Jason, Lafayette, and Sookie reconnoiter Marnie’s Moon Goddess Emporium where Marnie/Antonia have the remnants of the wiccan circle, including Tara, imprisoned. Angel managed to penetrate the warding that has been put up and then manages to find out that Marnie is not a victim of the possession at all. She wants it and, in fact, is more enthusiastic about killing vampires than is Antonia. Meanwhile, Tara and one of the other wiccans cast a spell to take down the warding. But this only results in Sookie and Lafayette being taken prisoner.

Finally, Bill, Eric, Pam, and Jessica arrive at the Moon Goddess Emporium packing enough heat to wage the Fall of Baghdad all over again. Now it’s war.
