Rappers Are Destroying the Black Community

I listen to hip hop. I don’t listen to it all day like I used to do when I was a teenager, but I still listen to it.

The only reason why I am able to listen to hip hop is because I have taught myself to only use it for entertainment and nothing more. I ignore just about everything they say.

But that’s not the case for a lot of other black people. They hang on to these rappers every word and actually try to live like them or do what they say to do. And many of them don’t even realize they are doing it.

I have tried to address certain rappers and lyrics in my articles before because I want other people to see that these rappers don’t mean well. They are just trying to make money, and they are saying some damaging things in order to get it.

It is alarming that the thug talk sells. That should say something about the black community. And a lot of people say white people buy more hip hop than black people, but I think that is just a lie. I think there are people that lie about statistics to keep certain people thinking a certain way. Black people think they aren’t consuming too much hip hop just because white people allegedly consume more of it. That statistic makes black people feel comfortable with all the junk we listen to. They think, “Well, we don’t listen to it as much as white people.”

But even if we did purchase less of it, we still are the ones with the f*cked up life, not white people. They aren’t the ones running around with all the problems we have. So what if white people buy more hip hop. They’re still doing better than us. Besides, just because you buy more hip hop doesn’t mean you listen to it all the time. Black people listen to hip hop all the time.

Black men are being destroyed by hip hop because it is teaching them to focus on getting money and girls, and nothing more. Black men are in pursuit of sex and money, and that’s it. We have both black men and women supporting this music. Black women wonder why we can’t find any good black men, yet we support music that encourages them to be skirt chasing drug dealers. Why do black women support the same kind of music that is causing black men to be asses?

Rappers take their clever lyrics and their nice beat and they glamorize a lifestyle that isn’t healthy. Then they convince women that all there is to life is looking good, popping your booty, and going home with a man. This is what they are telling us womanhood is. We have black women that are basically making themselves into sexual objects just because rappers say so.

These rappers have authority over the black community because they are rich and successful, something hard to come by in black culture. These people are from the hood, yet they’ve made it big. They went from the bottom to the top, and that causes the rest of the black community to look up to them because they are fascinated with that lifestyle.

A lot of black men aren’t real men and a lot of black women aren’t real women. We are just little puppets doing whatever people tell us to do, as long as it looks cute. We don’t think, we just act. That is what you do when you still have slave mentality. You do what you’re told, but you never think for yourself.

We are always being a slave to someone. We always need someone to tell us what to do because we don’t like to figure things out for ourselves. We want everyone to make things easier on us. We don’t realize that our way of doing things isn’t working for us.

I don’t buy rap music at all, and I don’t wish to start. The only rap CD I ever bought was The Miseducation of Lauren Hill. As I said earlier, I listen to some ignorant music time to time, but I don’t spend money on it. I think if rappers realize their sales aren’t looking good, they’ll switch the style up.

I have more hope for black women than black men. Hopefully other black women will stop buying the music of rappers that glorify the same things that cause black men to not be good men, and cause black kids to be just as trifling as their parents. Black kids should be better than the previous generation, not the same or even worse.
