Peugeot Upgrades the Small 107

After more than 650,000 units sold since the car was launched in 2005, the smallest car offered by French carmaker Peugeot is being upgraded, with a refreshed design and new features, following other models in the Peugeot range, such as the 208 or the 508. And alongside the new features, the car’s availability has been increased, with no less than 16 new countries getting the small French car.

On the exterior, the front part’s most notable upgrades include a more curved front hood integrating the Peugeot logo and featuring a design following the carmaker’s new design language. The license plate’s spot has been repositioned to the lower central panel, the headlamps have also been revised with a more refined look thanks to the longer shape, while the rear part attracts eyes with the darker tail lamps. The new Peugeot 107’s personality is now stronger thanks to the new wheels, the pearl aluminum gear knob and the chromed door handles.

On the interior, the elegant atmosphere is highlighted by the floor mats featuring the 107 logo, plus the gadget area that hasn’t been ignored at all by the French engineers. The smallest Peugeot is now available with a retractable display for satellite navigation system and iPhone and iPod connectivity. A storage space was added between the seats and outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the new hood mounted racks for luggage, skis or bikes.

Under the bonnet, the new Peugeot 107 will be offered with the same three cylinder 1.0-liter engine delivering 68 hp at 6,000 rpm and 70 lb.-ft. (93 Nm) of torque available at 3,600 rpm, mated to a five speed manual transmission. The 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration is made in 14.2 seconds and top speed is 100 mph. According to the official press release, the car’s fuel economy and CO2 emissions level has been improved, the new 107 achieving 55.4 mpg in the city, 74.3 on the highway and 65.7 on the combined cycle, plus CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometer.

However, perhaps the most surprising feature of the new facelifted 107 range will the special “ENVY” edition dedicated to the ladies. The special edition will be available starting with March 2012 and has some glamour features such as the Plum and Caldera Black exterior colors, specially decorated tachometer, aluminum handles and the “purse” compartment, while the cherry flowers ornaments on the front hood will increase the model’s charm.

The new Peugeot 107 facelift will hit European showrooms in February 2012.
