Packers Versus Rams: Final Thoughts

Some thoughts from the Green Bay Packers game against the St. Louis Rams today:

I was a little disappointed with Green Bay’s offense being a bit off in the second half of today’s game. They took the 24-3 lead but just couldn’t seem to get anything going after halftime. Fortunately, the defense continued their dominance over the Rams’ offense and kept them from scoring too.

Lots of drops the past couple weeks from the Packers’ receivers. Hope they get that cleaned up a bit because there’s really no excuse for it when you have Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball.

Speaking of Rodgers, when the announcers were comparing him to other quarterbacks, they left one comparison out, Brett Favre’s ability to escape the pass rush. There were plenty of times in this game when I thought he was going to get sacked only to see him get away.

Way to return from the MIA list, Donald Driver; 3 catches and one touchdown.

Jermichael Finley disappeared again though. I think defenses have finally figured out how to cover him.

I actually felt a little bad for former Packer Al Harris on that big scoring strike to Jordy Nelson. I think he could have gotten the tackle had his own player not slid into him.

Dumb move by Sam Shields. He had the interception, all he needed to do was take a knee and the Packers would have the ball at the 20. Instead, he ran around trying to take it out of the end zone and ended up getting hurt as a result. I only hope it isn’t too bad of an injury.

For the past couple seasons, Jarrett Bush has taken some verbal abuse from Packers fans. But, the defensive back seems to be improving and once again filled in nicely when needed.

I’m starting to think Chad Clifton’s days as the Packers’ starting left tackle might be over. Green Bay has not been afraid to phase out older players when there’s someone capable of replacing them and Marshall Newhouse did a pretty decent job. If he continues to perform well, Clifton might return from his injury only to find he’s a back up (or unemployed?).
