My Life in the Slow Lane

Working for McDonalds isn’t that bad of a job, even though the pay for doing that job isn’t that great. I live and work in California so the minimum wage over here is 8.00 dollars an hour. I have calculated that working full time I would make 1280 a month, and 15,360 Dollars in a year, and this would be Gross not Net Income. However on average I work about 25 Hours a week, which means I make about 800 Dollars a month in Gross Income, and 9,600 Dollars a year give or take. This last paycheck I made $329.20, because I do not make a livable wage, I live with my parents and help them take care of my Autistic little brother

Because I live with my parents I am shielded from many of the bitter responsibilities of being an adult, I dont have to pay rent, not that I could with what I make, and the only bills I have are a credit card to Bank of America that I am paying off, and some medical bills because I got sick last October and those really sting. The worst part about getting sick, is the hospital bill afterwards, even if you do have Insurance, which I don’t right now, but luckily I did when I was sick. I had Anthem Blue Cross and without them my Hospital bill would be in the tens of thousands!

My official title is Restaurant Attendant, which means that it is my job to keep the restaurant clean and presentable. Sometimes if things aren’t that busy, I will be asked to do other duties, like get some boxes of fries or other things out of the walk in fridge and freezer, or do some minor food prep, like bake and box apple pies, etc.

The best part about working at McDonalds are the people that I work with. I get along very well with all of my coworkers and my supervisors. I am even even on a first name basis with the owner and his wife, but for purposes of privacy I will not list their names here. That and the fact that employees get half off on food purchases makes McDonalds a good company to work for.
