My 2004 Toyota Tundra: A Life Changing Truck

I’d never loved another vehicle before this one. Many people who know me have heard me proclaim, “My Toyota Tundra is the BEST thing I’ve ever bought, it’s life-changing!”

Yes, I’ve openly become a walking, talking billboard for Toyota because of my love affair with my truck.

In 2004 I became a sales rep for a bicycle company in Southern California and started my hunt for a vehicle that was comfortable to drive and had enough power to pull a trailer as well as maneuver around the notoriously crazy Southern California drivers and traffic. I test drove and researched over 6 other serious contenders, but one thing was certain- my Honda Accord had to go. The Tundra won my heart, but like the Brad Paisley song goes, “I thought I loved you then.”

My truck now has 268,366 miles and runs as smoothly as it did in the beginning. It proved to be just as powerful and comfortable as I could have ever dreamed. On one occasion, after towing the bike trailer from Santa Monica to Mammoth Lakes for work, my boyfriend and I decided to detour through Death Valley to check it out. It turned out to be one of the hottest days on record. With just one step outside of the truck, I felt like my eyeballs were cooking. But my truck was a champ. Loaded down with the trailer, through the mountains and valleys, with the ac pumping, it took it all with a grain of salt.

Another time, my boyfriend and I were leaving Maryland, pulling the trailer, with both dogs in the cab. While driving down 495, a large truck hopped up from the oncoming traffic onto the dividing wall and barreled straight towards us. It was impossible to swerve, we were surrounded by traffic, and the trailer would have surely sent us out of control. Instead, my Tundra (and my boyfriend’s judgment) had enough power to eek us out of the situation. The oncoming truck hit a pole and sprayed us with debris as we managed to miss the accident

I’m on the road around 50% of the time between Maryland and South Carolina. Throw in a handful of trips to NY City and then throw in just as many trips to Miami, my truck has been to 24 different states!

Now my truck is more to me than a “thing”, it’s part of our family. I’ll be sad when the day comes that I have to “put her down”.

The best thing about my truck: I always feel safe, strong, and comfortable. Oh yeah, and it’s paid off!
