Missouri State Parks that Allow Trout Fishing

There are three state parks in Missouri where anglers can fish for trout. Each location is divided into zones for the type of lure being used and permits are available for purchase at each park.


Bennett Spring State Park

At Bennett Spring State Park, the spring branch is stocked daily during trout season. Zone one starts at the hatchery dam and anglers are only allowed to use flies. Zone two runs from the hatchery dam to the whistle bridge and only artificial lures and flies are permitted in this area. Zone three runs from the whistle bridge to the Niangua River and trout fisherman can only use unscented soft plastic bait, natural and scented bait. Flies and artificial lures are prohibited in this zone. Anglers must purchase daily permits at the park store to fish.

Montauk State Park

Anglers can fish the Current River for rainbow and brown trout at Montauk State Park. The season opens March 1 and lasts until October 31. A fishing license and a daily trout tag are required and you can purchase these at the state park. You can fish in the catch and release only area, where only flies may be used, the fly fishing only area and the artificial lures and natural bait area. The park has a fish cleaning station for your convenience.

Roaring River State Park

The Missouri Department of Conservation manages the park hatchery at Roaring River State Park. Trout is regularly released into the river from the hatchery. The river is divided into three fishing zones for trout fishing. Zone one runs from the hatchery to the mouth of Dry Hollow Creek and only artificial lures, soft plastic baits and flies are permitted. Zone two is a catch and release area and only flies are permitted. This zone begins at the mouth of Dry Hollow Creek and ends at the old dam in the lower end of campground three. Zone three is located at the old dam and runs to the park boundary. Artificial lures, soft plastic baits, flies and natural or scented bait can be used in this zone. There is a cleaning and fillet station at the park and you can purchase your fishing license at the park store.
